upgrading hardware has not lead to better frame-rates
« on: May 29, 2015, 01:23:57 AM »

In both my installs TFM and CUP has tested with a heavy object mission with b17s and have noticed that since
I upgraded my Graphics card from a gtx 580 to gtx 960  and have noticed a marked drop-of in framerate.
Here is a sample of log file
Code: [Select]
[7:10:08 AM] fps:2 avg:24 max:72 min:0 #fr:3292
[7:10:09 AM] Time overflow (4166): speed 0.18427518

[7:10:09 AM] Time overflow (4206): speed 0.18796992
[7:10:10 AM] Time overflow (4226): speed 0.18472907

What else do you have in your PC, RAM/CPU?
What framerate in C.U.P you had with gtx 580 and how large is fps drop compared to it?
Asking because C.U.P. yourself is known to cause framerate drops for some people so, if you coming from stock game that could be the reason.
Check your fps in stock game anyway, did it went down as well?

Hello,

I am no computer guru, but I think you are experiencing the same problem I had when upgrading from a FX7200 to a GTX460.
From a fluid game with my older GC, I got a slide show from the new one.
The answer lie in the settings (Antialiasing, Textures,Forest, Water,etc.....) to change and adapt to the new CG.
Through browsing the forums, trial and errors, and a bit of patience, I finally got it working as it should!
Nvidia inspector helped a lot in the process.
Not on my rig now, so I cannot give you the links, but with a little search you will find a topic with the settings adapted to your CG and a link to Nvidia inspector.

Hope it will get you in the process of reaping the benefit of your CG

Edit: I just remember I also had to add ram (from 4GB to 8GB with W7): the new CG needed more ram than the old one, but don't ask me to explain why, since I play IL2 with 512MB memory usage!

I have a GTX 770 and get lower fps in IL2 with newest drivers. I'm still on 320.49 IIRC. Having said that, you are probably restricted to what drivers actually support the 960.  As Georges said, check all the driver settings. Nvidia Inspector gives you most control over settings.

The other thing that can kill framerate with bomber formations is contrails, maybe that is worth checking too

Regards,

M

A side note....remember that IL-2 is a CPU game and not a GPU game....

true enough...but it does use open GL so GPU has some bearing on the framerate.
I've got 16 GIG of fast RAM installed so there should be enough and running under win 64.

Georges44...could you post your settings for your card. I can use those as a start point thanks
