Hi all,
Thanks for all your compliments, that's always nice to hear and motivating ;-)
@ Gerax : No problem, I didn't really know where to post it ^^
@henkypenky : You're welcome !
@ Mick & BOYAN : Guys, I just couldn't agree more with you, really. I'm well aware of this nonsense but honestly I don't have the knowledge in IL2 code as well as textures and image editing softwares to do something regarding this. I saw both mods you mentioned above and think they do the job quite well ( even though I didn't test them yet ), according to screenshots.
From my point of view, the perfect prop mod would be :
- New and detailed static prop 3D models, as well as damaged ones
- Prop full animation, not only spinning, but blade pitch change animation modeled ( feathering... especially unfeathering )
- True 3D stroboscopic prop disc with thickness in side view.
This last item is probably the hardest to do, as it's not only a 2D image file we would display when looking at the plane from side view, but a progressive 3D model which should play with colors tones and contrast to also give the illusion of the blade pitch.
First, when we look at a fast spinning object as an airplane propeller spinning usually between 2000/3000 RPM, we don't see blurred blades like on the screenshot prop mod, that's for movie, we actually see prop DISCS, like this :

Then, for improved realism, we should find a way to alter the prop disc color tones and contrasts between top and bottom parts ( or left and right depending from the Point of View - PoV ) : Lets compare the prop to what it really is, an airscrew. Its blades got pitch which, when watched from a determined PoV, don't look the same at all obviously. One blade will look thin and twisted ( so you're looking toward its leading edge ), while the other ( considering a two bladed prop ) is looking flat as we're looking at its upper surface " extrados "
This effect was modeled on several sims/addons but very few succeed to reach the desired effect. I took one of the models that, IMHO, succeed the most in this, the Majestic Dash 8 Q400 for FSX, and added 2 quick made blade to show you what I meant regarding blade pitch its effects on the colours/contrast on the prop disc

So, I really hope that someone here, probably the_woz who must know how it works in IL2, would agree looking further into it. I would be glad to furnish him/her side views of each blades at different prop pitch settings to have a base to work on, as side view is only realistic if it follows the shape of the blade when looked from side ( very characteristic shape, due to the blade twist, going from thick at blade root and getting thinner and thinner when reaching blade tip )
@Knochenlutscher : Ok ! Will see what I can do !
Cheers,
Hueyman
