F4F-4 Blows up on carrier deck - FIXED
« on: June 17, 2015, 11:59:14 AM »

Just installed WAW parts 9 and 10. Works fine, and perhaps it's just me, but I've had a peculiar issue with the F4F-4 (1942) Wildcat.
In QMB, when placed on a carrier deck (any carrier deck - Lexington, Essex, Saratoga, even the Akagi) as soon as I switch views, it blows up. This doesn't happen when placed on the runway. It doesn't happen with any other aircraft (for example, I've tried all the other US carrier based planes, even some land based planes) - just the F4F-4 (not even the F4F-3). If there are other aircraft in the flight, those aircraft don't even appear.

Anyone experience this?

No go. As mentioned, I just updated WAW with parts 9 and 10, so I am essentially running a "clean" version of CUP/WAW. I did not install any mods and certainly not the three mentioned in the posts referenced above so there is nothing to edit. Prior to that, through WAW part 8, this wasn't an issue so I can't figure it out.

i already reported this bug to monty via private messages. this is definitely a little bug that sneaked up into CUP because of the new aircraft carrier full deck parking etc. only happens to the F4F-4 (on big carriers) when the squadron has 2+ planes. first plane always explodes.

since the solution in griffons link suggests to delete files, we cannot easily fix this ourselves, but have to wait until monty releases an update. these files are packed in the SFS's. i am positive that monty can squeeze this fix in one of the next WAW updates :)

ehm, in fact we can fix this easily ourselves...

just get yourself a copy of the cowl fix by Jero for the F4F, get that into the proper file structure within the WAW folder and delete the indicated files from the thread I have posted...

alternatively, the one stop solution 3d folder contains an F4F-4 folder as well, you can also use this one...

both ways work on my WAW module...

i thought those cowl fixes are already incorporated into the CUP SFS files.. which would mean, if you dublicate them in the #waw folder and then delete them.. it wouldn't change anything.

either way. these are files regarding "wing damage"? makes me worry that this might have weird consequences. like.. AI wildcats with unbreakable wings?! i love to shoot their wings off with my precious zeros...

F4F-4 Exploding Wildcats:

Definitely fixed in WAW Part-11!

Here are 20 F4F-4s on the deck...

The offending damage mesh has been clipped out of WAW52.SFS.

The Wildcat retains her good looks; enhanced so much by PA_Jeronimo.

However, in its natural habitat, rubbing shoulders on crowded carrier decks, the collision mesh and damage modelling needs a little more leeway...

In tests we got 32 F4F-4s on the deck...  ;D
