Many thanks for the link !
I wonder if Il-2 FM of Fw-190D9 corresponds to the experience of the real pilot ?
Especially as it concerns full brakes and full throtle ...

Very interesting information about how different planes handled on landing, with the 109 floating and refusing to go down while the 190A dropped like a rock.

Interesting interview.
Not always consistent in his statements (*) but that's the price you pay for the long time that passed since he flew those planes I guess.

Best regards - Mike

(*) Several times he makes a statement first and tells the exact opposite afterwards, e.g. about the manifold pressure ("it never went below 0.9, even if you throttle back", later "on touchdown it was 0.5 or lower") or using brakes on takeoff ("we never used them", later in the story about the farm landing "full brakes, full throttle, the engine was whining").

Interesting vídeo,.
But you cant really ask these old timer-Ace pilots to get on a flight-simulator and ask
them if it feels like the real airplanes they flew 70+ years ago. I can´t even remember the
first tricycle I rode on when I was 4 years old  :D
Flight-simulators and the real-machines are very diferente.

I think it is essential to ask them. Yes, their memories might be muddled, but they are the real deal, and you can see how animated and even youthful they can seem when describing the planes. Also, it is fascinating to hear about the quirks of the aircraft as described by the individuals who flew them-this provides an insight that is difficult to find in blueprints and stats. soon this connection with history will be lost.
