I trust you mean the F4U-1A folder, which already has a Mk 8 sight base (and large reflector plate attached to the canopy)?

Or do you mean the F4U, which in my stock version has a smaller sight (of form I'm not familiar with), and a simpler reticle?

Yes F4U-1A and D ,C with the  large reflector plate attached to the canopy, want to just use the reticle on the large reflector plate.

I've already done this for my own install, of course.

And I've made up a Mk 8 sight having the reflector removed. That is, the head is present, with the crash pad, but having the glass and angled support removed. This is not strictly accurate, as far as I can tell, for the photos I've seen have no head at all; just the sight base, with bare metal upper part over which slides the head.

I should post this mod, from which you can take the files:

ZZ_RETICLE.msh
reticle.tga
reticle.mat

Or you can use my sight as well, which in spite of its non-realism is no worse than the equally unrealistic stock model. ;)

I do plan to eventually make up a more realistic sight base, perhaps with ad hoc crash pad added, as I see in some photos.

Greybeard,
If you're running an older game version (4.09??), it may not incorporate a mirror in the stock Hellcat; my 4.08 doesn't. If that's the case, in my supplied hier.him remove the two sections

[BaseMirror] and [MIRROR] (including the few lines following these two section headers.)

You can either cut them out, or precede each line with "//" characters to REM them out.

WxTech, this is the solution not only for an old version of the game. I am running two versions of il2: one is 4.12 with SAS Modact 5.3 (no Hellcat cockpit mode)  and the other is HSFX 7 (with Hellcat cockpit repaint). In both cases cockpit crashed. I removed the mirror sections from the file, and it helped :)
