Art3mis: game won't start
« on: August 12, 2015, 07:32:00 AM »

i wrote here for Art3mis that post me via PM, he cannot open a thread yet

Let me explain.

I played il-2 ages ago on my old laptop, however yesterday I got a huge nostalgia burst and bought the GOG version of the game.

So, I proceeded to install the game. However, the game didn't lauch. I went to the setup, and set some stuff up to my liking. Simply opens on taskmgr for a few seconds, then closes.

Here's my config:

Code: [Select]

I've tried to mess with things, however nothing helps. I tried deleting the config but it does not regenerate when opening il2fb.exe.

I've tried to kill explorer.exe, tried to open in compatability mode, etc.

Here's my PC stats:

The config.ini looks incomplete.

Also you have an NVidia card and sections with ...NV=0 need to be ..NV=1.

Here is my config.ini, change the graphics part for resolution etc. to your defaults, same for sounds etc.. IF you copy and paste something. Not necessarily bugfree, but works:

...if you have a Mods section in your config.ini, copy that one in too...and backup your old one!!

Updated with your config, still doesn't start.

Also, it's a clean install. no mods whatsoever

Run "IL-2 setup.exe", choose windowed mode/opengl, small resolution (like e.g. 800x600), save settings and see what you get.

I'm willing to pay someone to help me getting the game booted up. I'm not made of money tho, and I'm a underaged student.

Haha, not bad :D
Honestly though, if there was a general issue with the GOG version of the game, don't you think there should be more than just you reporting it?
Now that you say you don't even get a log created (which is hard to believe, but let's do so for a couple of seconds), the next logical steps are these:

  • Uninstall the game.
Something has been beefed while you installed it, so let's start from scratch.
    Really.
    No other way.
  • Install all latest drivers for your PC, in particular make sure that your graphics card driver is up to date.
  • Get yourself a screen capture software so you can document the following steps.
    Why?
Because you say you have no log.
And we just lost our crystal ball.
We need some information to help you out, and the only one available except a log would be to see what you've done.
The only way to see what you've done is to capture a nice video of it.
    No screenshots please, a video.
Download and install Open Broadcaster. It comes for free and a child of 5 years can use it.
  • Now start capturing your video.
  • Install IL-2.
  • Run IL-2.
  • Stop capturing your video.
  • If IL-2 once again failed to start, upload your video to youtube and send us the link.

Best regards - Mike

I know how to record, thanks.

I've reinstalled the game 2 times, but I guess i'll do it once more and record it for you.

Also, my drivers are up to date. I checked the most obvious ones, aka CPU and GPU drivers.

CPU drivers? Tell me more.

Just some unofficial drivers to make overclocking a bit more customizable, I've also uninstalled those in case they we're what's causing issues, but neither did it work after that.
