Windows 10 headaches?
« on: August 12, 2015, 11:06:44 PM »

On my laptop just did the free upgrade, didn't do proper research and disable I tunes first so now I tunes is there and works but cant acess any new stuff that I hadn't downloaded yet and office 2010 dost work either, ive got my key code but I cant get the program to open. Anyone else  has success or failure with this?  iTunes wont allow me to disauthorize or authorize my install, just tried the latest install from iTunes and same problem. [ossible solution is to go on other computer to diauthorize all and start over. Don't know what to do to try and get office working again. If I roll back to win 7 will all my stuff stay or will it get removed??

Apple delivers wrong iTunes versions for Windows 10 users.
Get the right ones here: http://www.redmondpie.com/itunes-wont-install-on-windows-10-heres-how-to-fix-it/

Office 2010 should work under Windows 10.
If yours doesn't, just uninstall and reinstall it after updating to Windows 10. You need your product key either way.

Your personal files will stay during a rollback as will your installed programs, however you might need to re-activate some of them, like Office 2010 (as said before, your product key is vital for success, always).

Yep it sure is my friend!

I wonder if there is any computer anywhere in the world that still runs on DOS, and not as a joke/nostalgia move. I bet there is still one running in a secluded, remote village in the Andes mountains that is still hailed as a piece of modern technology by the inhabitants!  :)

Millions of them, no joke.
In my previous job we've produced e.g. vault control systems and automated vault machines where the software controlling the SPC was DOS-based, a C++ program compiled with Watcom, including the famous "DOS4GW" extender, the same combination like used for Doom I/II ;)
We've sold thousands of those systems and they're still running.

Here are my experiences with win10:

I only upgrade my operating system when I have to, usally when I buy a new computer. Or in this case, if it's free. I was happy with win8.1 after I figured out how to eliminate all of the crap and make it look and act like win95. It's stable and quick. I upgraded to win10 and I've only had a few problems so far. Some are specific to IL2, some are more general.

These are my experiences with my hardware and configuration. They may not be relavent to you.

If you are losing your mouse in Il2, you need to first update your nVidia driver to 355.60 released just a few days ago. Then set your desktop to 100%. For some reason win10 scales everything including your apps when you change your desktop DPI. IL2 does not like this. Switch to 100% to start IL2, switch back when done.

If your monitor won't turn off at the time specified in "Power and Sleep", you need to go into Device Manager and disable all of the entries called "HID-compliant game controller". It doesn't seem to actually disable them, (I have the full CH setup) but your monitor will turn off after the specified time.

I might revert to win8.1 before my 30 days are up, but I want to know what the deal is - will I have to pay $200 if I reinstall win10 after 30 days?

Yeah, life was simple when we had to search through all floppy disks in the house just to install a basic peripheral because no plug&play !  :P
I remember Windows 98/2000 as the Windows on which I started modding (on Rally Trophy, a fun rally game from 2001), but also as the Windows that had some blue screen of death all the time ! Like at any occasion it would crash !

I've started with MS-DOS and weirdly enough, I didn't find it that hard to learn, even though I was 7 years old and just learnt to read 6 months before that. I would learn all commands by heart without knowing a single word in English at the time, but... it worked.
Computers were fascinating to me...

Now my current glitch is processor running at 50-65% and same with ram usage, hp wireless assistant and wmi host provider are the biggest user. tried the windows 10 clean boot and didn't really help so reverted back to load all at start up. Not a powerfull laptop pc here, dual core 2.0 ghz with 3gig ram. will try the clean boot again as before it was set to selective already. any ideas, have seen a youtube vid on how to disable just the wmi host service.

I had a IBM PC with 256k memory running DOS. It eventually ended up in the back yard filling a hole under the fence where the dog kept digging out. I bet if I dug the damned thing up and plugged it in, it would still work flawlessly.

I'm still running Vista 32bit and considering upgrading soon, but I sure don't need any more headaches than I have right now.
