Updated to Version 2

Replaces the first version uploaded Aug. 30, 2015

Before deleting the old and installing this, back up any changes you might have made, such as tweaks to POVs in any of the Body.msh files, etc.

The three main new features:

1] Lowered the MC-200 sight head by 25mm, primarily so as to permit seeing the full reticle from a slightly father distance (of particular importance when using the realistic reticle visibility option!). This does not make much *too* much difference to the outside view.

2] Added the option to select a realistic reticle visibility, using a new reticle mask system. In short, the reticle is only seen inside the aperture of the reflected collimator, just as occurs in reality. Instead of a mask essentially 'painted on' the reflector, as is usually done, now the mask is 'floating' in the air on the far side of the reflector, behaving as a virtual image of the collimator aperture. It lies as far beyond the reflector as the collimator lies below, just like a mirror image. It's of the same size and in the same place as the reflected lens texture, if the latter is enabled.

A second mask is made to exactly match the reflector's edge. It's intended to ensure the reticle and lens reflection cannot be seen outside the reflector when the POV is moved far off axis. However, it seems that 'masking the mask' is not fully functional in one respect. A part of the reticle and lens reflection can sometimes be seen beyond the reflector's edge when both are overlapping and at the same time extending beyond the reflector edge. I haven't yet figured out if this can be fixed, but's it's a fairly minor thing.

This option is probably more of use for players using head trackers, or other means to similarly alter the POV over a goodly range.

3] You can elect to make the collimator yellow, as seems to possibly have been done for the Tipo B. I've supplied the G-50's sight so configured, so that you can try it out right away. All other reflectors are supplied non-tinted, but are easily enough changed.

Personally, I'm willing to endure these graphical gaps in order to have a better view through the sight, which I'm sure the real pilots enjoyed.

With the new version there is also a problem with the G.50, if you choose "realistic mask_no lens reflection" you do not see the cockpit

I fixed the problem with the dual mask system, whereby part of the reticle/lens reflection could be visible outside the edge of the reflector when one's point of view was located far off axis. And so I've uploaded the full mod pack mod with this fix--and a couple other tweaks--included. Now the reticle and lens reflection visibility is completely accurate. Except for the Cr. 42, where a small glitch remains, possibly due in part to the presence of the upper wing and struts; but this is a pretty minor thing.

Here's a graphic (using a screen capture made during the earliest development) which illustrates the principle of the dual mask system I came up with. At least, I've never seen this approach applied by anyone else...

As outlined already, the reticle mask now comprises two components:

- A circular mask having the same diameter as the collimating lens, located as far beyond the reflector as the lens lies below the reflector, and oriented so that its plane is perpendicular to the optical axis. In other words, this mask is the viertual image of the collimating lens aperture, as reflected by the reflector plate. I call it Mask.msh

- A mask lying exactly in the plane of, and tracing the edge of, the reflector plate. This delimits the area of glass which can possibly reflect the image of the reticle, and the image of the lens below. I call it Mask_2.msh.

The lens reflection texture--which can optionally be enabled/disabled--is coincident with the circular mask. That is, it has the same diameter as the reflection and lies at the same place. This follows from the fact that the lens aperture *is* the mask.

Thanks for checking things out, and supplying the hier.him file contents. I see that in all three cases the undamaged and damaged sights are named

You should be able to add the *correctly named* cockpit folder alongside the four I've included, then drop in all the required files from my existing MC_200-VII folder. This *should* replace those stock sights. All files used by my meshes must be included, such as reflectoredge.mat/.tga, reflectorface.mat/.tga, etc., etc.

Note that you *will* have to adjust the XYZ coordinates in hier.him in order to place my sight at the correct place; you will make these coordinates the same for both [pricel] and [pricel_D1]. Depending on how far from the reference datum the stock sight is, it could be the case that my sight is partly or wholly invisible behind the instrument panel, or otherwise oddly placed. Some iterative adjustments will get my sight where you want it.

If you succeed in loading a cockpit after adding this mod folder for it, but no sight appears, at least you're part of the way home...

Note also that after adding new files, you must quit and restart the game, else the new items are not recognized.

after having installed as is your latest version, I'm getting the "empty sky" screen when loading Cr.42 (exactly like Tony got earlier for G.50):



I did a provisional fix, replacing latest stuff with previous version of Cr.42. In addition, I revised aiming POV's, since I thought as a nonsense not to see outer ring, which is the one to use as reference to shoot at a crossing target (according to the odd principle of operation of this sight); I arranged them as follows:









BTW, I made them all yellow (following my tastes).

About MC.200 serie 7 and 7FB I think there is a misunderstanding: just dropping all the same stuff contained inside MC-200_VII folder into MC-200_VII_new, we get your gunsight, BUT we have the wrong canopy frame internal view! Please have a look at following images:
