Missing air.ini file and MODS folders!
« on: September 22, 2015, 04:43:37 AM »

Hi everyone, I'm new in the forum and I need help to try to solve a strange problem, I've already done some researchs in the net and in this forum without success...
As my original IL2 1946 DVD died, I downloaded the game also with 4.08, 4.09, 4.10, 4.10.1, 4.11, 4.11.1, mods...and it works fine.
I would like to install new planes and mods, so I read the tutorials in this forum but...I discovered that some important folders are missing!
Even if my game has been modded I have no "MODS" folder (and consequently all it's content) and I can't find anywhere the air.ini file that should be vital for the game but apparently is lost...without all this stuff I can't install nothing but how it's possible that my game is able to work without air.ini file? And if my game is modded, why I've no "MODS" folder?
And finally, what I've to do to install mods and aircrafts, can I follow the normal tutorials on this forum or I've to do something different?
I found also that I've some planes, for example the Me321, P-36 and the Mistel appear in the skins folder but not in the game...could someone help me?
Thanks a lot

you must clarify what you download.
If you download some magapatch then there are just the patch from the stock game 4.07 to the last TD patch.
You need the original game.
Than you have to use the Modact.
the last Modact don't use the MODs folder but the SAS folder instead.
I'm not completely sure but MODS folder is use only on the 4.08/4.09 Modact and HSFX, from the 4.10 it was used the SAS folder

Thank you for the answer, I downloaded pratically the second result I found in Google, I was looking only for the IL2 1946 version of the game, it has been a surprise for me to found something more in the download.
Given that I'm not an expert in modding, patching, etc,( I survive thanks to the tutorials in this forum) the game includes the contents of the mods I wrote above and the related readme files, so I'm pretty sure that the game is modded up to the 4.11.1.
You speak about the SAS folders, I don't have those folders, do they come downloading the Modact? What do you think about the missing air.ini?
Where you say that I need the original game you mean that may be versions of the game in the net that are in some way unfit to add or install something more as in my case?
Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure that the game is modded up to the 4.11.1.

MOD is unofficial expansions. Published Here, in SAS , are also so.

4.08m - 4.09m - 4.10.1m - 4.11.1m - 4.12.2m - 4.13m .... those patches are Official patches.
They are NOT MOD.
Even in each version 4.10.1m or 4.11.1m or 4.12.2m or .... they are "Stock" status in the other word  "Unmodded" status.

Looks like you downloaded a pack with all the games files.
The best thing to do is to patch to the 4.12.2 and then add a modpack, you can find CUP on this site
There you will find plenty of mods from aircrafts to maps, effects and so on
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,240.0.html
or you can add the modact 5.3 https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,37662.0.html
and than add mods one by one

Thank you veeery much OberstDanjeje, I'll try  ;) I'm sorry if I confused the terms "patch" and "mod", as I said I'm new in the game and in the forum.

You need to get a glimpse of the terms and whatabouts we use here to communicate.
These are essential when it comes to describe the Gamebase and Modded Game version you use.
We have more than one variant/opportunity to offer. Lurk through our Forum and learn.

Easy in the beginning...
What our community holds up in case of references, stuff to try is very enourmous.
This can be way overkill. Take your time to sneak our Forum, how it is built up,
we have Sticky Posts in every subforum explaining neat things. Explore us.
Basicly you should do it without trouble if you read Sticky Posts, Descriptions and Manuals wisely,
sometimes reading through long posts gather you much needed insight or experiences shared by others.

Use the search function on top right corner or our new "better" Google supported Search function
in lower left corner. It can help a lot, I still don't know where I would be without Search here.

Just easy, in the beginning all is bit new and hard to understand, but the rest comes naturally.
Welcome and have fun here, good luck on modding your Game...
