There are various proggies out there I'll list the most famous.
First to know, some Proggies call themselves Fontcreating Software, which in turn is
nuthing more than a BMP fonter, not really ttf and fully capable Font creator.
Always read through the documentations first.
Do you have access to the glyphs, some progs are import and go only, so no
fiddling afterwards possible. You don't have access to refinements, corrections that easy.
Second, that a program is free, has usual some deeper understanding that you'll lose comfort
in creating, processing tasks.
It can turn out at Font software, that the simpler a Product is, in fact harder to understand/use.
Commercial $$$ with Demo optionsFontographer 4.1 (old version)*
Fontographer 5.2 (new revised version by Fontlab)*
The original Handbook is a large brick, from the prog first you wouldn't dare it's
needless to print more than 700 Pages, but it is needed. I never grabbed the basics.
As I was going to Type Design in my studies I came into trouble, as it was contraproductive. My prof then
told me to try Fontlab Studio instead, for a better and logical GUI/Settings structures and easy to use Tool.
400$ sincerely hilarious, older 4.1 are more expansive even at auctions, this just resembles the fact that you pay for a name,
not valueing it's real usefullness, my cents...
Since Fontographer support and development has stopped officially with 4.1
and 5.2 only saw cosmetic changes it is superceded long ago by
Fontlab Studio 5 *****
as todays industry top leading Software...
For beginners it's a too pro Tool, you end up with a prog from which you don't use 90%.
Price is kickass, some 700$, only worth if you intend to kneel behind Fontdesign deeper.
This superceedes Fontographer as it includes todays Open Type standards fully, including some smart features,
which enable fast processing, sth. Fontographer lacked by far.
Type Tool by Fontlab *****
I use to call it Fontographer how it should be, easy to use and smart
49$ worth the deal
Fontcreator *
very limited, but easier to use as Fontographer i.e.
If you have no money for FontlabStudio, but a smaller prog, go for TypeTool instead.
I wouldn't spend money on this. 90$ ???

Corel Draw ***
has an inbuilt feature that allows you to create a simple (.ttf) Font based upon Vector and Pixelgraphics (bmp),
can't remember if this really wasn't a BMP fonter by simple means, I used in pre college courses
once. very, very limited by source, but good enough for private or small projects if you care to own a Corel Version

http://fontstruct.com/online limited Fontcreator, it seems good for geometrical builds, but I doubt it is usefull for
deeper projects, as you can't access the settings usually u need to adjust a Font later
reminds me of a stripped off Bmp Fonter...
