A Monty campaign comment and a query
« on: October 25, 2015, 10:06:17 AM »

I enjoy playing Monty's TFM-412 BoB campaign.  But in the past there have always been a few missions that don't load properly so I just skip them when possible.  Just recently, I have enabled the Forgotten Countries mod through JSGME (this was a recommended fix to the DoF problems I had), and.......upgraded my PC to Windows 10 (free, and in my 73 yrs I never pass on a freebie).   Now, lo and behold, all the missions I try in BoB thus far that would not load before, work.  I am a shocked and amazed.  My query - could the mere enabling of the FC mod have done this, or do you reckon it was a combination of the mod and Win 10?  Believe me, I am not trying to look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth, and I am really glad the campaign now seems to work as advertised, even in CUP.  I am just curious about what you guys think.

ehm which problems did you have with loading the campaign?
I dont think it is a case of Win10 solving anything, my bet is on the FC mod...

but without knowing which missions caused you trouble, it is hard to tell....
never had troubles running the BoB campaign - this on Win7

Can you roll back to Win8?  I strongly recommend that as Win10 is bullocks.

Regarding your responses, thanks, but I gotta disagree with you on your Windows 10 comments, but that's just me.  Main thing is it was free upgrade, and Microsoft has never been big on free stuff.  My bride of the past 51 yrs isn't big on computer purchases.  And that new OS works really well for me.  Maybe I don't put as many demands on it as some do.  But operating systems aren't an issue.  I just mentioned it.  Far as the aforementioned campaign, I have run the game/campaign on Windows 8, 8.1, maybe 7, I just don't remember, but I have always had problems until now.  Specific missions, well, one that comes to mind right away is the one with that funny aircraft something like Defiant or something like that, and also missions 55 and 56.  And to be sure there were some in between.  I can't remember for sure, but that's what happens when you are my age.  I may run into some again that won't work, just haven't yet.  Oh well, for a change I wasn't asking for help, just the musings of a sometimes idle mind I guess, and maybe I would learn something.  Thanks.

I misread your original post Ol' Navy.  If it works then by all means carry on.

I don't think so, but......  It was the upgrade offered by MS to users of Win 8 or 8.1.  Maybe you are correct, but it sure didn't say anything in the info I read.  If so, oh well.  The option is there to roll back to 8.  I'll just hope for the best.  Thanks.

I re-read this and I think it explains it pretty well

Hope they are correct.  Thanks.  Man, I would hate to have to spend the money.

nyali,
Not really.  More precisely, it is free to upgrade for 1 year.  If you want to UPGRADE after the 1 year period, you have to pay...

ol' Navy,
I think the campaigns work now because Monty was ahead of his time!  :P

Well, I am sure glad he did it.  I have enjoyed BoB ever since he released it.  Even though I got frustrated at times with some of the missions not loading correctly, I played it a lot anyway.  And now, since for whatever reason, it seems that quite a few issues are fixed, I really do enjoy it.  And if I read correctly one of Monty's posts, he mentioned that he was gonna build a new one for CUP.  Thanks for your response.  And as always, thanks to Monty for all his efforts.

i went and read up the windows 10 upgrade, I stand corrected, that will teach me to listen to hearsay lol. It wasn't an upgrade I had interest in personally so had never checked it myself.  8)
