The procedure to get UP3 up and running is this:

• Take IL-2 4.10.1m or later as starting point, make sure your game is running fine in stock/unmodded mode.
  
  
• Choose variant a or b:
  
  
  • Download and install the UP3RC4 Superpack from here:

  • (Only works when your game version is 4.10.1, not earlier, not later!)
    • Download and install UP3RC, for instance from here:

    • Download and install UP3RC4, for instance from here:
      http://www.derrierloisirs.fr/il2/bdd2012/
      
      
• Choose variant a or b:
  
  
  • Download and install the latest UP3 Patch Pack from here:

  • • Download and "install" (read: Extract to your IL-2 game folder, retaining the internal folder structure) the "#UP#SampleFolder" e.g. from here:

    • Optional, but strongly recommended for choice "b" (not necessary for choice "a" since it's already included there):
      Download and install the latest selector from here:

• Run JSGME from your IL-2 game folder.
  Activate only "#UP#_Enable_UP3.0" and deactivate all other things.
  Do not activate things like "#UP#_Enable_Hakenkreuz", "#UP#_Enable_WideScreenSupport" or "#UP#_Enable_WideScreenSupport&Hakenkreuz".
  In case you chose variant a) on step 3 (Download and install the latest UP3 Patch Pack), you also have to enable the corresponding "#UP#_Patch_Pack_(...)" in JSGME.
  
  
• Run "IL-2 Selector", click "change settings", select "Ultrapack 3 or later" from the dropdown list, leave everything untouched, click "Save Settings" and exit the Selector.
  
  
• Run il2fb.exe from your IL-2 game folder to start your game.

Looks difficult, but it boils down to 2 downloads if you choose the easy way and running two programs and do the corresponding settings once (you don't need to do that again unless you want to switch to another game type), that's all.

Thanks to you all, but we have figured it out. At this moment we are running 4.13.2, UP3.0RC4 Patch Pack1.07 with FBDJ.

Ahhhhh! This installation is doing my head in! HELP!

So this is what i've installed and the sequence but all I get is a quick flash of an arty flying screen then it goes back to the selector or just doesnt start.

1. Installed a fresh copy of IL2 v4.10m and updated it to v4.13.1
2. Extracted UP3 RC straight from the zip file to Ubisoft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder.
3. Extracted UP3 RC4 straight to the same folder from the zip file.
4. Gone to the GSGME and enabled #UP#_Enabled_UP3 then closed.
5. Extracted #UP#_Patch_Pack_107 from zip file straight to Ubisoft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder.
6. Gone to GSGME and enabled #UP#_Patch_Pack_107. (It warns about changing UP3 so I click 'yes')
7. Gone to the selector and change to 'UP3 or later' then saved and exited.
8. Clicked the game icon in the Ubisoft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder.

Then all I get is a quick flash of the aircraft start screen at a size that is smaller than my monitor.
I've unselected the UP3 to stock game and un-enabled both 107 Patch and #UP# UP3, but now can not play the stock game.

I've tried the above process several times with slight variations but still no good.

Success! here's what I did after seeing your comments Mike.

installed the IL2 dvd/cd game.
patched to v4.10m
installed UP3 RC
installed UP3 RC4
patched to v4.11
patched to v4.12
patched to v4.12.1
patched to v4.12.2
patched to v4.13RC4_INT
patched to v4.13.1
Clicked JSGME to enable '#UP#_Enabled_UP3.0'
extracted 'UP3RC4 Patch Pack 107' to il2 folder.
Clicked JSGME to enable '#UP#_Patch_Pack_107'

Clicked IL2 selector icon to select 'UP3 and Later' saved and exited.
Then clicked IL2fb.exe icon to start game - and it works!

Note: When you get this far, copy the whole folder to an external drive as a back up. It's easier to copy and paste instead of going through this process again when you reformat your hard drive one day.

Thanks for your help, this has taken me days to get this far. One last question: what is patch v4.13.2 all about? Is it a Russian language version? Do we need it?

updated it to v4.13.1

That only works when you choose Variant 1a (the Superpack Installation), but you choose 1b (manual UP3 Installation), in that case you have to have exactly IL-2 Version 4.10.1 running before installing UP3 RC, nothing earlier, nothing later.

nope.
I don't know why you installed 4.11, 4.12 & 4.13 on top of your game once you were on v.4.10.1 .. you simply don't need them to run UP3..

All this topic says is:
If you have your game on v.4.11+ already (for example if you bought it off steam, or updated without making a backup etc),
you can install the UP3 RC4 Superpack on top of it without reinstalling IL2
This will always kick your game back to v.4.10.1m

Hello and thank you for this great piece of work, appreciate your dedication in bringing this to us all.

I successfully installed the UP3 RC4 over 4.12 as directed herein, went smoothly and without a hitch. However, from my experience having downloaded and installed the Pre-DBW2 offering here on SAS last year, I got different results when loading the various installs apparently related the to order of installing, resulting in different FM and/or sound/effects dominating in one install vs the other.

After testing the 2.10 patch with 4.12 clean, I therefore then attempted another install using a clean 4.10.1m as the starting point, my intent being to eliminate any possibility of 4.12 FM somehow contaminating the UP3 FM. I used the Mega pack to go from 4.07 to 4.10.1m, then installed the Superpac as above, then the patch 2.10. Problem: none of the 'class' files appear in the new 4.10.1m install, and many of the folders are not present as in the 4.12 install. I see dbw...sfs and updbw files in the 4.12, but not in the 4.10.

One more note, I install both of these installs directly under my C drive, of course with different titles.

Please advise on what I might be doing wrong, and perhaps recommend the way to achieve my goal of this 2.10 patch installed over a clean 4.10.1m.
