Say Folks - Can I ask a question on the Nieuport 17b?
I have  re-downloaded in the past 4 weeks  all the CUP modules from Mediafire - as posted on your excellent site - following a problem with my PC and Win10.
For some reason I can't get the  Nieuport 17b to fly - seems it has no engine.  Is there something I am doing wrong? I have re loaded all modules from DOF Pt01 through pt12b  on a new install of CUP.  In the past  the 17b  flew really well and was a favorite in combat.
I have read this thread and see there was a new DOF pt10 posted by Monty. Do you know if this was posted to the list of files to down load or am I using an older version that does not have the fix?    Should I try  a restore with
https://www.mediafire.com/?ountbeh6gshow3a    listed above - (reply 28 from SpungeBob)
As always  gentlemen,  I can only reiterate my gratitude for the super work you do with IL2 and it is hard to believe it is over 14 years old and you make it new with everything you do.  Slaute~

Here is the difference between the fix #DOF folder as posted above,    and the latest version of the #DOF after loading all the other module files to 12b.
Quite a difference.
I can only assume  the files are cleaned up and placed in other locations for moding reasons and to make the files load better. Trouble is  the Newport 17b looses its engine in the process it seems, when doing this.
I have loaded to module DOF10 and will see how that goes.
Has anyone else had this issue or do I have  something strange in my  new build?
Thanks for any advise.
Rod

just loaded a 6 month old copy of the game and the N-17 hasn't got a motor in that build neither...just an empty engine compartment....
hope someone can find a fix for this....it would be so very much appreciated....

Up date on where we are at with the  N17B....
All the Newport's will load and start  but if another player joins the mission the engine will go to "Engine In-oop" and stops. Joining  member will also not be able to start his engine either.
This however does not happen with one Nieuport - the N28C1.  This is the only Nieuport that can be flown by more than one player in a mission.
It is also noticeable that when the engine will not start - Magneto 2 is no longer selectable and it looks as if the FM for the engine could be the issue? Guessing?
If in single player mode,  all the engine controls work fine.  Mag 1 & 2 are selectable,  individually or both.  Engines for all Nieuport's work fine.
If I look in the FMs folder inside the #DOF.   I see no mention of the  N17b among the Nieuport's listed?  Is that an issue?
The strange part of all this is that many months ago this problem did not exist.  Sad to say I can't put my finger on any one update that may caused this change - in the hope that it could be fixable.

If I am totally out of line here and this is not an issue for those who fly Off line.  Perhaps you could just put me out of my misery and tell me there is no fix.
I still enjoy all the wonderful work you have done on this Sim.  Which is Way further down the road to excellence than it ever was.  For that I am truly grateful.

Hi Rod, you are right of course; CUP is designed for detailed missions and campaign flight and OFFLINE Single Player play.  This highly modified setup is not tested on Multiplayer Servers.  Therefore: Anything outside of the design parameters cannot be reliably tested or commented upon.

I test flew DOF today and all Nieuports are fine; with loud gun sounds and burbling engines.

CUP's greatest strength is to establish parity between users and eliminate doubt and rouge untested elements.  The 'Restore Point' Install does this by providing a common mod folder to the latest specification.  This should be treated as a replacer.  You still need to download all the parts and the SFS files stay where they are.  The magic happens in the mod folder - #DOF/#TGA/#WAW/#JTW - If yours is the same as mine - exactly - then we can eliminate oddities.

For ONLINE testing you need to establish a partnership with exactly the same setup and go from there.

For my part its all about the campaigns and missions OFLLINE only.

Thanks  Monty,
Appreciate the reply.
Although we have been fling IL2 with C.U.P. added from the beginning & Prior to that the Full Monty and also DBW before that. I would say everything has worked famously.   We who fly together as a Squadron have enjoyed all the tremendous work you and the team have created. and marvel at how much better it is now.  I take my hat off to you all and ~Salute.
We have found that if we just stop the uploads at DOF Pt 09  everything works as intended re the Nieuport 17b  and we are very happy with that.  It is only when going to DOF Pt10 RP  that things go array re the 17b engine. So not a big problem.  We do fly all the other era's  and have found no issues when flying together.   Just  hours and hours of immersive enjoyment.
Thanks  again,
Rod

It is only when going to DOF Pt10 RP  that things go array re the 17b engine.
I strongly suspect that, with regard to flying as an Online Group, one of your number has failed to COMPLETELY DESTROY the old #DOF folder and use ONLY the new MOD folder when doing the Restore Point Install.  With the shortly released DOF Part 13 you will get another opportunity to correct this situation.

Part-13 will supply a complete new #DOF.  Of course the SFS_DOF is upgraded too and you need that, that is the point, but the old MOD folder has to go and the new one supplied is complete.  The reason is to ensure the absolute removal of outdated classfiles and their proper replacement.  In the case of the Neiuport family this is critical.

Well, you know it Alfie, as a WWI enthusiast you probably watch the same threads I do.  We now have Gothas, Bleriot, new Avro Family, all singing all dancing!  Also finalised for release asap.

Are your Neiuports OK BTW?

Hello Monty,

I am happy to know that there will be a new release of DOF soon.
Thank you for all the work put in there.

I've made a fresh install and I only detected a flaw: the old issue with Nieuport 11, as I described in the following thread:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,50322.0.html

Another user (EHood) and me have found problems with the cockpit view of this model, and we suspect there is something wrong in our install. All other Nieuport models work fine, and they seem to be well reworked, with very fine details. However, the Nieuport 11 appears as an older version. Unfortunately no one else has confirmed if they see the correct version in their install. Would you mind to check it in your new install?
It is difficult to imagine that you made two wonderful DOF campaigns with such an underdeveloped plane. The new DOF release would be a good opportunity to fix this if it is a common problem.

By the way, I love the way you build the WWI airfields. I enjoy very much flying around over them. The immersion level reaches high levels with that improvised and busy looking. In the first campaigns it is easy to feel that war has just began and everything is being hastily prepared for a new way of combat.
I think this is one of the strong points of CUP: using the same style of graphics, you have a completely different feeling when you fly in a WWI or in a Cold War setting. It is like time-travelling!
Thank you for all that!

Just peachy Monty....and just as deadly as always  8)
Nice to see the Avro's in DOF 13 ...I find them a beautifully balanced a/c....I tend to fly them more than the Pup nowadays which is always a good sign  :D
The Bleriot is great fun and I'm very keen to test Lone Wolf's Santos Dumont Demoiselle........after he's finished with the Kikka
  :-*

....and of course Gio's Gotha is a masterpiece !

Cheers

...All other Nieuport models work fine, and they seem to be well reworked, with very fine details. However, the Nieuport 11 appears as an older version...

For rough field takeoff make sure you have 'Realistic landings' set to OFF - This also affects takeoffs and makes rough fields pretty much impossible most of the time.

You are absolutely right about the Neiuport-11, its an odd bird from another time.  I concur the chocks are not available for this aircraft.

I guess I had always ignored the odd cockpit parts.  I fly this aircraft with a close-up POV, its OK looking out front.  Since then we have had many new airplanes and some much better cockpits that fit the 412 version correctly.

I looked at editing the cockpit mesh, but one compromise leads to another and nothing looks as good as the rest of the Neiuport family.  I think one solution will be to relegate the Neiuport 11 to AI only status, for the time being, and re-jig the campaigns and missions to make use of some of the other beautiful Neiuports we have subsequently recieved.

Neiuport 10As, for example, could easily be substituted.  One other option is to try and import the cockpit from another type into its place.  If this works I will let you know, or else I will patch the effected campaigns and put them into the next part for a simple overwrite. - I will be doing this for at least one campaign now that we have some fantastic Gothas to bomb London with!

It IS very much worth doing and I appreciate your feedback and continuing interest.  I love these sessions and we always move forward in the end with a better sim as a result.

Either way - DOF Part-13 WILL fix these issues and the campaigns will keep coming, both patches for a few earlier ones and the new phase as we move into 1918 for the next set.
