I reread it, I used a clean folder dedicated only to CUP since its creation (the whole point of restore point is to have a clean folder?) with one exception: I installed a modified DGEN a while back and have since deleted it.
I'm going to try redownloading since so many people are having trouble with corrupted files. If that doesn't work then I'm afraid to ask again since my requests are greeted with a degree of agitation. Then again, that just could be my perception of communication over the internet.
It worked after a redownload. Information pertaining to the likelihood of d/l failure should be edited into the original post because it seems to be a common occurrence in this thread.
Upon testing I did notice a missing model for the Lancaster... hmmmmm
exhausted - Don't be afraid to ask anything here, this is one of the most open and friendly places online where a huge international community banters about and works on their hobby very effectively.
"Agitation" is in the eye of the beholder - as is the principle in life that often you get back from something in proportion to what you put in.
For example: Nothing, by definition, is missing from CUP. By definition; CUP adds thousands of mods to Vanilla Il2. The criteria upon which they join this un-paralleled collection, are based on compatibility with 412 code, and each other. Many people wrongly assume we simply crunch up mods and 'jam them in' - However, there are two principle components of CUP: The SFS files which contain material, 3D meshes, textures etc, and the mod folders which configure this material and apply it to the sim. The mod folders comprise, largely, thousands of classfiles, any one of which is reposible for a part of the functionality of several mods.
Classfiles are tiny and moving, adding or over-writing just one, can have un-forseen consequences. Bombers, in particular, have code for multiple crew stations, turrets, doors, engines, loadouts and the FM, all of which has to play alongside everything else without breaking it.
More and more mods are now based on 412 and take CUP into account. But when we moved from 409/410/411 to 412 - Much of this code was changed!
This is why CUP exists, and many of the old hands and new flyers too, are very grateful. Often misunderstood, the task of assembling and presenting CUP is repetitive and complex, leading to a lot of late hours head scratching for testers and researchers and mod makers.
When, after thousands of hours of work, somebody breezes in and makes an off the cuff remark about "something you missed" - I can tell you clearly where the agitation is coming from...
Please observe: If you consider adding another mod or variant of a mod would be useful to CUP - Tell us what, exactly, you mean and post a link. CUP is complex enough without turning it into a crossword clue word-search. Be specific!
Be Specific:
Years ago my girlfriend and I were driving out to the coast on a long unlit country road. She seemed to always have a comment about some aspect of my driving. She was constantly pointing out signs and traffic and side roads, what other people were doing. It was getting dark and late and we didn't know this part of the country. I asked her to "be specific" if she had any driving advice, otherwise either drive and I will have a rest or keep quite.
As the sun set we rounded a bend in the darkness and, as I glimpsed something moving on her side of the narrow road, she yelled; "SHEEP!" Excellent, one word, specific and we stopped safely. After chasing the animal back into a nearby field and closing the gate securely we laughed about our near collision and effective communication skills. Right there I asked her to marry me. We still laugh about that trip 16 years later and 15,000 miles further away...
