CUP - The Jet Age - JTW
JTW doesn't scan does it? Its probably a hangover from my references to the amazing 'Jetwar' series upon which this set was initially based. Anyway the mod folder for The Jet Age is called #JTW and it is known as CUP Module Four.
The original Il2/1946 had the Me262s and 163, that Russian rocket prototype, the Lerche and few early MiGs. It really was never designed for what we see now. Tracking multiple targets on radar, the HUD, a working WSO, VTOL, helicopter flight, steam powered catapults on modern carriers and working SAMs!
Originally the "Java Wall" in the 410/411 versions of Il2/1946, meant that the introduction of the Sabre and the SAS breakthrough project, the MiG-21 series, started to exact a high price in terms of performance and stability. The TD 412 patch solved a lot of these problems and enabled the SASEngineMOD 2.7 to introduce a huge amount of new features that made the expansion of jet age flight plausible in Il2.
For these reasons jet based mods work best in 412 and the SASEngineMOD 2.7 has become the 'industry standard' with code and fixes from this set present in all modern jet mods for Il2. Picking up from the end of WWII, and getting straight into the Korean War, it made sense to separate this class of esoteric mods into CUP - The Jet Age.
Recent developments have seen improvement in many of the base models, many more features and fantastic advances with helicopter and supersonic flight models and BVR weapon systems. The Jet Age has a modern feel to the presentation and aircraft like the F/A18D and F-16B make it seem like a totally new simulator!
