Memory issues (I think)
« on: December 23, 2015, 01:26:00 PM »

I asked this someplace else, so please pardon me for doing it here.  I suspect this is the "proper" forum.  I downloaded/installed SASMME Part 13 Preview within a day or so of it being posted (guess I jumped the gun).  Since then, I have been experiencing memory problems.  The game freezes.  Alt Tab as often as not tells me the dreaded "Il-2 6Dof/TIR Enabled Executable for Modded Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 has stopped working".  Ctrl Alt Del gets me out.  And, further, at times, I have gotten a dialog box telling me that Windows has low memory and stops the game and even offers to tell me how best to manage the problem.  I installed Windows 10 Pro on my PC just after Microsoft offered it (so it has been awhile ago) and since then, I have never, ever had this problem until right after I installed the MME Pt 13.  I have changed my RAM usage setting back to 512 from 768 but that hasn't helped.  First started noticing these issues while playing the Black Scorpion campaign, but have discovered it isn't limited to that.  Issues with modules e.g. WAW I know can be remedied using Restore Points, but how do I get rid of that map mod to see if it is the culprit?  Maybe my 8gb of installed memory is bad?  I'm looking for advice/recommendations.  Any would be helpful.  Thanks, and I appreciate you listening and your patience.

Hi 'ol Navy,

Here you say the issue was solved:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,47658.0.html

Whatever it is, the mod added was a mapmod I made on top of Uufflakke's high res Crete map.

Here the original map:

I have no idea what SAS~Monty27 specifically did with the map while including it, so I cannot help.
But it is highly unlikely an added map causes a general RAM issue except maybe due to increased load demand on game startup-if you are not IN that map, it does not affect your actual game...at all.

Please keep in mind Monty's remark about the random skies mod, check if you use it.
"
Install:  If you are using any DEF-Skies options, with Whistler's Randomiser for example, disable them first before installing this update. - When that is done UnZip/UnRAR this package direct to your main install.  After that you may re-enable any DEF-Skies options if you require them.

Sorry, I cannot help there, never heard of such an issue, but I reportedly often heard Windows 10 is crap. :P

Cheers and good Luck..

Tom'ster

PS
..the map uses Uufflakke's high rez textures, so I would also check if you have an issue with those (high reso textures or high res content like skins) in general. But if you are not flying the map, that should not be an issue.

Tom, thank you for your quick response.  Yeah, I thought my issue was solved also.  But that wasn't to be.  One thing I did read in one of the posts concerning a "resources" thing, a reboot was mentioned.  I did try that, and maybe it will help.  Sad thing was CUP was running really well, not problems whatsoever, until, all of a sudden, the memory question.  And, as I said before, I've run my game with Windows 10 since it (Win 10) came out.  Oh well, I'll keep at it.  I have been trying to avoid starting CUP again from scratch because I would lose all my campaigns but I may have to resort to that.  It's just time consuming.  Thank you again, and Merry Christmas to you and all.

Hello Bob,

never mind Sir, I will direct the boss at your post, maybe he can help. Could be one of those weird IL-2 issues.
Do not reinstall CUP, maybe he has an idea. A Happy Holiday and a Blessed Christmas to you.. :P

Cheers and have a good time

... there's no reason to lose your campaigns, you only need to back up the proper folders from your current install and copy/paste them in your new one ...

If my memory is still worth something you need to back up the following folders:

Missions

Users

If you play DGen campaigns, then sorry but I don't have a clue ...

Mick, thank you very much.  I forgot that I had CUP backed up on a thumb drive up to WAW Part 12, working fine.  I am at present copying it onto my SSD and so now I am good to go I think.  Regarding your recommendation to copy the User file to Missions so I don't need to reload my campaigns.  On the outside chance that my whole problem might have emanated from one of the campaigns I play - if I suspect that was the case can that file be deleted and the game still work?  I'm thinking that I could just delete the contents of the folder and leave the folder there.  Does that sound OK?  Pardon the stupidity.
