TBD-1A
« on: December 27, 2015, 08:33:43 AM »

Hello! :)
While I was banned here at SAS, I have done some mods, one of them is the TBD-1A - float Devastator :)

"... the designers have tried to extend the range of tasks of the TBD-1, and in the summer of 1939 the world's first serial "Devastator" (remained at the company) was equipped with floats which lengh was 8.8 m. However, the Navy has not shown much interest in such aircraft, designated TBD-1A. Americans are able to advertise their goods, and a formal request for TBD-1A soon came from Holland - her aviation required a Maritime patrol bomber. The Dutch asked to make a number of changes in the design of the seaplane. The main condition was to replace the engine on the "Wright" GR1820-G105 (1100 HP), to standardize the plane with coming into service American aircraft Brewster B-339D Buffalo. The engineers have developed the appropriate documentation, and already there were talks about building a series. However, in may 1940 German troops occupied Holland, and all the work on TBD-1A had to be stopped. Remained in America TBD-1A was the only float "Devastator" passed in the 2nd experimental division in Rhode island for various tests. He flew until may 1943, and participated in the development of torpedo MK.XIII..."

Well, this mod is compatible with 4.09, 4.10 and 4.12, but not tested in 4.13 - please report about compatibility :)

Nice one, thanks Radge :)
Funny thing how they put folding wings on a floatplane, that somehow raises the question "why?", but since it's historically correct, who cares?

Thanks and best regards - Mike

Thanks Radge for this nice plane :) I'll have some fun with it when time allows.

"why?"

Well, sometimes you have to pack them on a cruiser or something - which does not give you much spare space - especially if you want to put there four or five of them :D

Here just an example of IJN Tone - the top E13A is on catapult, but the one at bottom is in standard transport spot - there would be one more on the other side of the ship - with it's right wing folded. If you try putting there "unfolded" Jakes, their wings would inside one another.

(And for those who are interested, high-res picture of the ship. <<<>>>)

I'm glad you like it, Mike :) But folding wings is logical thing, as Koty said ;) Also, a E13A had folding wings :D

Here just an example of IJN Tone...

Aaahh, I so much do want to have her in my IL-2... :D

???
This is a Devastator float plane thread. The ship is there as an example.
And I have written that it is Tone - so what the actual F?
