Greetings from new member- lots of questions...
« on: January 05, 2016, 01:13:44 AM »

Greetings to one and all-

        I've been visiting this site for a long time... I figured it was finally time to join since I just downloaded and installed C.U.P. All I can say is wow... a whole lot of labor and love went into this project...
        The C.U.P. install wasn't my first rodeo... there's been Ultra-Packs, DBW, and an assortment of add-ons... and that's just this family of sims!
While I work on my 5 posts to enable me to load code, I thought I would share some of what I encountered so far- the code window I'll need later...

Meanwhile...
        First, a couple of things I noticed, that I couldn't find any previous threads about...

        1) Did anyone notice the SE5 and SE5a ailerons are reversed? That is to say- when you move the joystick to the right, for instance, the left aileron on the upper wing moves up when it should be moving down and vice-versa for the upper right aileron. The lower ailerons don't move at all... I think the prop rotation is reversed as well. Don't get me wrong, though- I absolutely love flying these! And they're beautiful!

        2) The problems with the Junkers G38 mentioned in its readme is actually a simple fix, I'll bet... here's the thing: The first time I flew it, I noticed that it wanted to turn to the left, especially the more power I gave it. That flight ended in a crash. The next flight, I cut the power and it flew straight, which allowed me to land it on a runway. Once down, I saw what the trouble was... the thrust from all 4 engines was being generated from the right side. I confirmed this by shutting off the right engines, throttling up the left engines, and it still turned to the left. I'll bet that somewhere in the FM for this thing is a parameter defining x,y,z co-ords for each engine/ propeller, and that's where the problem lies... there's a couple of missing minus signs somewhere. For those of you that tinker with the Microsoft simulators, the same sort of info resides in the 'aircraft.cfg' files of those planes...

Later... -Mike

That's good, it's always good to have someone who can spot, and fix technical problems.

And then...
       One last thing on the G38- I'm pretty sure all the rudders are supposed to move, aren't they? I could be wrong, of course... This thing could be fun to tool around in once that thrust issue gets squared away... big ol' lumbering bird...

-Mike

P.S. I wish I could help tinker with these, but all my experience with that has been on MS sims...

first of all, Welcome here!
as David has posted it is always great to have people who spot and think about the causes of problems, even if they come with experience from other sims :)

cheers

Did you need Java ability to do that? My only ability re Java is the addition of milk, and sugar.

Thanks... glad to be here...
       Like David, my only encounter with Java is one cup at a time... more or less constantly... :-)
       But anyway, tweaking the FM of an aircraft in any MS sim is working with two files every aircraft has- 'aircraft.cfg', which can be opened with anything (notepad, wordpad, etc.) and an 'air' file (xxxxx.air), which needs one of two utilities made over the years to open and edit. There's even a sort of spreadsheet tool you can get called 'airwrench' that you can make .air files with which seems to work pretty good. Of course, any FM is only as good as how much accurate info you can find to put in it, and how well the sim uses that info...
       Meanwhile, as I near my 5 posts, I did want to make another observation that I stumbled upon, and the questions that came out of that. While seeing the sense in making sure I was generating my logfiles,  I was a bit daunted by looking at that logfile in notepad. For some reason I got the idea to edit my conf.ini file to generate 'logfile.rtf' instead, and behold! It was much easier to read... And then the fun began...

Let's see... I'll start with DOF... Maybe someone around here can enlighten me...

        Keep in mind that I have been able to get all the C.U.P. modules installed and running, but not without issues...
1) Others have noted here that their logfiles have been up to 10 MB in size, the length varying depending on which module you are activating. My DOF logfile is the long one for me- and it's 99% because of loading FMs. Each FM gets loaded multiple times (see example):

Code: [Select]
FM called 'FlightModels/FokkerDr1.fmd:FOKKER' is being loaded from File: 'fokker'
FM called 'FlightModels/FokkerDr1.fmd:FOKKER' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'fokker'
FM called 'FlightModels/FokkerDr1.fmd:FOKKER' is being loaded from File: 'fokker'
FM called 'FlightModels/FokkerDr1.fmd:FOKKER' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'fokker'
FM called 'FlightModels/Generic.fmd' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'gui/game/buttons'
FM called 'FlightModels/Generic.fmd' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'gui/game/buttons'
FM called 'FlightModels/Generic.fmd' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'gui/game/buttons'
FM called 'FlightModels/Generic.fmd' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'gui/game/buttons'
FM called 'FlightModels/Pfalz_E1.fmd:Pfalz_E1_FM' is being loaded from File: 'pfalz_e1_fm'
FM called 'FlightModels/Pfalz_E1.fmd:Pfalz_E1_FM' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'pfalz_e1_fm'
FM called 'FlightModels/FokkerEIII.fmd:FokkerE3' is being loaded from File: 'fokkere3'
FM called 'FlightModels/FokkerEIII.fmd:FokkerE3' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'fokkere3'
FM called 'FlightModels/FokkerDII.fmd:FokkerED' is being loaded from File: 'fokkered'
FM called 'FlightModels/FokkerDII.fmd:FokkerED' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'fokkered'
FM called 'FlightModels/AlbatrosD1.fmd:AlbatrosD1' is being loaded from File: 'albatrosd1'
FM called 'FlightModels/AlbatrosD1.fmd:AlbatrosD1' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'albatrosd1'
FM called 'FlightModels/AlbatrosD3.fmd:AlbatrosD3' is being loaded from File: 'albatrosd3'
FM called 'FlightModels/AlbatrosD3.fmd:AlbatrosD3' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'albatrosd3'
FM called 'FlightModels/AlbatrosDVa.fmd:AlbatrosDVa' is being loaded from File: 'albatrosdva'
FM called 'FlightModels/AlbatrosDVa.fmd:AlbatrosDVa' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'albatrosdva'

        The game will load the entire roster of FMs in this fashion- then it will load them all over again- and again- many dozens of times over and over- before it finally finishes booting up the game. Once the splash screen gets to 60%, I can walk off, get a cup of coffee, make a sandwich, and take a nature break, and maybe the game will have finished loading by then. DOF does this worse by far than any other module.
        Can anyone tell me why?

2) I selected Halberstadt DII in QMB and got a Fokker DII. A simple edit in 'planes.properties' fixed that. Was that by accident or design?

3) My logfile also showed me these error messages, the number depending on the module:

Code: [Select]
INTERNAL ERROR: Str2FloatClamp() - Clamped 3 -> 2 (delta = -1) to Range 0..2
INTERNAL ERROR: Str2FloatClamp() - Clamped 5 -> 2 (delta = -3) to Range 0..2
INTERNAL ERROR: Str2FloatClamp() - Clamped 3 -> 2 (delta = -1) to Range 0..2
INTERNAL ERROR: Str2FloatClamp() - Clamped 75 -> 32 (delta = -43) to Range 0..32
INTERNAL ERROR: Str2FloatClamp() - Clamped 120 -> 60 (delta = -60) to Range 0..60
INTERNAL ERROR: Str2FloatClamp() - Clamped 1024 -> 512 (delta = -512) to Range 1..512

Can someone explain what these indicate?

More questions to come... but this is enough for now...

Thanks in advance...  Mike
