#WAW_02_DEF-WINTER FIX

Tiger33's Flyby Winter Map Fix: C.U.P. - World at War.

Tiger33's beautiful flyby sounds are absent over several of the winter maps.  This is not due to Tiger33's mod but is a MAP issue; a conflict with the code that employs frozen river's and lakes on some maps.

While this fix does restore the flyby over those, very few, affected regions - It does so by thawing out the water!  This means that previously frozen rivers and lakes will be changed.  This may or may not be important:  For example you may need a frozen Lake Ladoga to re-supply Leningrad during the siege of 1941/42!

That's why this is a simple reversible JSGME Option.

Although I doubt seriously whether I would ever need this mod, I have a question.  That it is a "simple reversible JSGME option", how, exactly, do you get it to where it has to go?  If you unzip it into your CUP main folder, it doesn't end up in the jsgme folder (that I can see anyway).  Unzipping it directly into the jsgme folder it doesn't show up either (I don't think).  Copying the contents into the mapmods/maps folder I guess might work, but is that what you smart guys would do?  I am just trying to learn something.

You need to create a new folder and call it "#WAW_02_DEF-WINTER FIX" without the quotes.  Then copy the two folders from this zip file inside this new folder.  Then place the folder in "jsgmemods" and the remaining text file into your CUP root directory.

Thanks for that.  Like I said, I was just trying to learn something, and you smart guys don't ever ask  so I always assume you know.  Now me, that is another issue.  But let me ask one more and then I'll leave y'all alone - since sometime it is advised to just unzip something (mods) to your main file, and apparently this one is different - is there a quick and easy way to tell the difference?  As always, I am just deathly afraid of screwing up my game trying to interpret what is said here.  I do have a backup as well as my -WAW folder still there, but I want to get things "right" as I possibly can.  Thank you.

Well, complicated question if you do not understand file structure.  The easy answer is, if it says to unzip/unrar directly to the default folder, that's what you should do if the compressed file is built correctly.  In my case, I use WinRAR for my compression/decompression.  When you double click on the RAR file, and if it's built correctly, you should see folder names that we have in our main CUP folder. (i.e. jsgmemods, SFS_WAW, SFS_Auto, etc.)  If that is what you see then it was created correctly and you can then go ahead and decompress it to the main CUP folder.  If, you don't see those names, then the compressed file wasn't structured for dropping directly into the main CUP folder.  Sometimes you will even see files two folders down in the structure with duplicate folder names.  It all depends on how it was created.

This particular download did not say to decompress directly to the main CUP folder so it should definitely be checked first for structure.

Anytime!  Just look at the download before you write it to the game folder.  See if the folders listed are in your root folder, if not they go somewhere else.  In the case of CUP, most will go either into the root folder or into the jsgmemods folder.

To Old Navy,

Old civi here,
Great question. I sometimes had the same situation and through trial and error have figured out how to do the math, so to speak. I wish I previously had the fortitude to ask the question as you did. Now I understand why I was confused in the past. Thanks for asking the question, and you know what they say, no matter mundane a question is, there are quite a few thinking the same thing.
Kudos,

Joe

Thanks.  To tell the truth, sometime I am embarrassed to ask what I ask, but I just bite the bullet and figure you smart fellers will continue to bail me out.  And I do learn some stuff along the way.

C'mon we are all friends here!  I tidied this one up so the pathway is good.  Its always fair to ask and Ol' Navy NEVER asks anything that hasn't been covered in the post or readme, so I always know its going to be a good question... :-[
