error 0xc0000142
« on: February 03, 2016, 12:14:51 PM »

Help, help
I am loosing access to my games (I have many exemplars)  by getting a message "error 0xc0000142". In the litterature I found that it is due to dll problems. What should I do to recover my games and/or to avoid the error when starting from a vanilla?
Best regards.

Starting with a plain vanilla game installation is a very good and clever first step.
After doing so, verify that the game is working fine and re-verify this status after each step of mod installation.
At a certain point you will either figure that it suddenly stops working, then you know exactly what you did last to get into that situation and it's easy to roll back to working condition.
Or, if you're doing everything right, the game will just run when you've finished installing your mod, e.g. CUP.

Dear Mike,
it looks a little more complicated because it was my xth trial to get a complete Il2 WAW up to part 19. I checked after the last part 19 and the game ran. I opened the game a second time, ok. But at the third time I got the error message. Surprisingly on other untouched Il2CUP games I got the same message, except on my basic game which still runs but with incongruities in QMB.(planes depending from the choosen map)
I also tried to use the restore points inside CUP but I don't understand completely the process, anyway it was without success.
Maybe it is a "coup" from Windows 10 which is very disappointing, for instance an recent update of Windows deleted without notice my rights as administrator to access to Openoffice files.
I will make a new attempt from a Il2 vanilla game. I use Itzarc to open the zip and rar files.
Is there  not a way to check each folder in order to find where the error 0xc0000142  is coming from?
Wish me good luck.
Best regards.

No, I'm sorry.
0xc0000142 is a very general windows error code which tells nothing but the fact that the application couldn't start.
The only hint I could give is to check your selector memory settings and lower them to a safe value like 256 or 512 MB.
