Newbie's questions on installing CUP
« on: February 07, 2016, 05:35:28 AM »

Hi everyone,

Having tried modding IL2 1946 as Monty said in the Step by Step post, I think there are some minor things a noob would like to know :

-Many tutorials recommend re-extracting the MME pt 12 after DOF part 6 for instance, but since that moment MME pt 13A-B-C and 14 have been added, so what should we do ?

-When should we install the CUP Module 01 SAS-MME LATEST ?

-From time to time, clicking in the blue bold links in the Step by Step topic doesn't do anything but opening a new tab with the Home page, is there anything special to do ?

-If our conf.ini file isn't similar to the one recommended in the Step by Step topic, should we add the lines no matter where they are or do we have to have those lines in the exact same order ?

Hope you have the time to answer, thanks for all that you are doing for IL2 ! (sorry if I made English mistakes, I'm French)

Hi labordel, this is how I quickly installed C.U.P W.A.W when I recently reformatted a hard drive.

1. Downloaded ALL the parts for the MME and WAW modules up to the highest level. (I haven't installed DOF, TJA or TGA as yet.)

2. Extracted every part of MME into the root IL-2 folder, in order, except "MME latest."

3. Extracted every part of WAW into the root IL-2 folder, in order, up to part 19.  The latest part, part 20, is a restore point, so there is no need to bother about any of the previous restore points.

4. Before extracting part 20--the restore point--deleted the #WAW folder.

5. Extracted WAW part 20 into the IL-2 root folder, which includes the latest restore point #WAW.

6. Installed MME latest.

7. Edited conf.ini as per CUP manual.

8. Installed the CUP and WAW JSGME restore points (from the optional extras board).

That's the simplest way for me to understand the installation procedure.  The other modules are similar.  You only need to pay attention to the latest restore point, because you're going to delete the
earlier ones anyway.

Hope it helps?  :)

Oh, and conf.ini lines can be in any order, as long as they are under the right heading, eg:

[Mods]
RandomSplash=1
netCallsign=
ToggleMusic=1
Flyby=1
FlybyFov=60.0

Labordel,  I just tried the links for MME and WAW modules and all opened to the correct page they are supposed to link to. Which links are you having problems with?

Don't worry about that, it's just that sometimes they work, sometimes they don't ! But now that I've bookmarked every link it's just fine

Hey guys, I did everything you said, but I can't find the logfile.txt so...Am I missing something or does it have another name or something like that ?
I have cleared the initlog.lst and tried relaunching the game, here it is :

To get instant logging running, you need to edit your conf.ini file.  (The instructions are in the C.U.P. manual.) Once you've done that you'll find the logfile.txt in your IL-2 root folder (after running the game).

Don't take this is as absolute gospel, but in recent testing it looks like the logfile.txt for a healthy install runs to about 600-700KB.

KB.

Well I did, but it seems that the lines HAVE to be in the exact same order, because I do have a logfile now -yaaaay-
Although, it looks like I've some issues...
I've seen a post where someone had kind of the same things than I did, so I'll check that first

okay, great, now i see your error log, but i now need to know what exactly is the physical problem with the game when this error log is generated..?
is the game crashing? freezing? does the game load, but then crash when you fly, or what...?
so - i can't give an answer while i don't know what the question is, lol... :D
