Ansaldo SVA5, SVA10E, and SVA10L by gio963tto.
« on: February 11, 2016, 03:25:49 AM »

Hello guys, I am again fortunate to have another of those amazing aircraft by gio963tto to work on again. 8)

This is the SVA5 fighter, currently in its own slot:

The hooks for bombs and machine guns are already done as you can see from the image and as time permits I will develop
this and the two twin seaters that were sent to me.

For the moment it uses a borrowed cockpit but I will do as usual and use Gio's existing 3D.

Early days yet so no links for the moment.

Take care guys.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Another true italian classic! Thanks to all involved!

The pic shows the poet and soldier Gabriele D'Annunzio and Cap. Natale Palli with the S.V.A. 10, modified for the raid over Vienna, 9 august 1918 (a propagandistic flight performed by 11 S.V.A by 87° Squadriglia Aeroplani "La Serenissima")

OOPS! we are going to have double versions of these planes - I am going to upload soon the first part of the Krasnyi Vostok pack (at last moving, after 2 years it was on hold) and this will include my own version of these same planes - but I want first to finalize functional historical cockpits for these planes too. - Well, the more the merrier :))

Just a little update on the cockpit. ;)

Stick and rudder bar works although I do not know exactly how the stick was operated.

It seems to be attached to a circular bar that would allow it to pivot left and right but how it controlled pitch is unclear, maybe it moved back and forward in a push pull motion along the bar controlling pulleys, here it behaves as a normal stick though.   Any information would be greatly appreciated as I cannot see anything that shows the operating mechanism in books or photographs.

The two levers to your left are separate items, I think one is a throttle but which I do not know so they are not operational, they will move in some direction though if you name the part accordingly to what is in the java.

Take care.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Pete, all these sticks worked on the same principle:
For the elevators, it was rather simple:  schematically you had 2 cables that run parallel to the longitudinal metal axle (one over and one under) when the stick was pushed forward, the upper wire was pulled and made the elevator rise it , and when the stick was pushed, the lower wire was pulled and depressed the elevators.
For the ailerons it was much more complex: its rotation once again acted by pulling cables that acted on articulated metal bars and further cables till the movement reached the ailerons pulleys.

Look at this drawing of the stick of the Ansaldo A-1 (the SVA were similar):
The metal perforated piece d acts as a de-multiplicator for the stick movements concerning rudder wires.
The metal pieces n and m act on the aileron system

and this is the double command stick system from the SVA10
In spite of the bad quality you can recognize the very same elements

The throttle mesh includes 2 levers: the larger one is a throttle, the second is a fuel mix command.
