Hello Guys!

could some of the more experienced guys here do me a favor?
pls drop the engine mod, as provided in JSGME as "WAW-Config-EngineMod" (or something similar) into your game, replacing the stock engine mod that comes with #WAW folder from pt20 and see if the catapults on the carriers work?
it seems, on my installs, stock and modded, only the engine mod that comes with stock WAW has working catapults, while the "enhanced" one (enhanced according to the release thread of pt.18) does not shoot aircraft off the catapults;

just to confirm that it is not working or confirm that I screwed up...

When I use the "WAW-Config-EngineMod", the I- 400 sub aircraft is offset, hanging in mid air off the side of the sub. It was my understanding that the catapults on the battleships also don't work. ( in the read me)
Getting back to your problem, the catapults on the aircraft carriers work on my install with that mod.

but isn't this just the 'alternative' Engine Mod option that Monty's been referring to, which allows you to choose the 'older' Engine Mod version which allows for the use of the Iowa catapults, as opposed to the newer version, which doesn't?
apparently, this is just an interim situation until such time as the Engine Mod is reworked and consolidated... from what i understand...

gb027 did you try a full circle launch-recovery?
I tried one of the carrier landing training missions, first landing, then taxying forward to the cat and then launching again;
launch only worked with the provided "small" engine mod, the full blown as coming from JSGME did not activate the catapult on my install;
the good thing is, I got so much carrier landing practice yesterday that I feel comfortable now in almost everything the naval air arms can throw at me :D (I was trying everything from Swordfishes, Fulmars, SeaHurris, Seafires up to Wildcats, Bearcats, Tigercats etc. :D)

I think I will create my own engine mod, throwing the latest patch from Western for the merged effects, cockpit sounds and blue flames in and see how that turns out...

weird nevertheless...

I've not installed C.U.P. and I cannot look into those problem by myself , but only general talking....

Enabling Cataputs and its parameters (start positions and powers , etc.) are written in #~~~/(EngineModFolder)/com/maddox/il2/objects/Catapults.ini .
Different catapults behaviors  (some ships' catapults are enabled or disabled, position is offset.... ) come from parameters difference in different version Catapults.ini .
You can merge all good values from each versions' Catapults.ini into one best Cataputs.ini .
And feeding-back to C.U.P. manager staffs.

I know western, in fact I also tried my old catapults.ini which is mostly using settings by Hubberanz;
I also tried different carriers and different planes;
the results were the same....
the I-400 problem is an old one unfortunately and one that seems to be related to the engine mod or your patches or both;
fact is, the I-400 problem was introduced sometime after WAW pt7 or 8 IIRC; the engine mod that came with pt.7 worked in that regard (also the Iowa cat launch did) while with the engine mod of later versions, the I-400 and Iowa did not work any longer as catapult platforms;
IIRC I had one version of the engine mod with a patch from you that at least made launching from the I-400 possible again, I need to check though;

for the time being, its the engine mod from WAW7 for me again, modded with the files for JC Merged effects;
I will try and build an up to date version tomorrow, using 2.7, your latest patch plus the files for JC Merged FX, PAL Cockpit sound and blue exhaust flames;
will report back...

nevertheless, THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for your continued support, not only for the patches to engine mod, but also for the ships extensions and all other stuff---BRILLIANT WORK!!!

Umm... sorry only without C.U.P. but by single SASModAct game, I'll look into again for I-400 and Iowa catapults and my Engine MOD.

Hi, Griffon.

I have tested the carrier catapult function with #WAW_00 EngineMOD enabled in JSGME where "n/a" = CV does not have a catapult, "enabled" = catapult function working and "disabled" = means a/c does not engage with catapult (ie, spawns mid-deck).

Code: [Select]
USSCVGeneric                          n/a
 USSLexingtonCV2                       n/a
 USSSaratogaCV3                        n/a
 USSSaratogaCV3_1943_1945              n/a
 USSSaratogaCV3_1944                   n/a
 USSEnterpriseCV6_42                   n/a
 USSEnterpriseCV6_44                   n/a
 USSHornetCV8_42                       n/a
 USSHornetCV8_42D                      n/a
 USSEssexCV9                           enabled
 USSEssexCV9_1943_1945                 disabled
 USSEssexCV9_1944                      disabled
 USSYorktownCV5_42                     n/a
 USSYorktownCV10_1944                  enabled
 USSIntrepidCV11                       n/a
 USSIntrepidCV11_1944                  enabled
 USSHornetCV12_1944                    enabled
 USSFranklinCV13_1943                  enabled
 USSFranklinCV13_1944                  enabled
 USSTiconderogaCV14_1944               enabled
 USSLexingtonCV16                      enabled
 USSBunkerHillCV17_1944                enabled
 USSWaspCV18_1944                      enabled
 USSHancockCV19_1944                   enabled
 USSGenericCV9ClassMS21                disabled/both

 IndependenceClass                     disabled/both
 USSIndependenceCVL22                  disabled/both
 USSBelleauWoodCVL24                   enabled
 USSBelleauWoodCVL24_1944              disabled
 USSSanJacintoCVL30                enabled
 USSSanJacintoCVL30_1944               disabled****
 USSPrincetonCVL23                enabled
 USSPrincetonCVL23_1944                disabled****
 USSCasablancaCVE55                   enabled
 USSKitkunBayCVE71                     enabled
 USSShamrockBayCVE84                   enabled
 USSCowpensCVL25_1944                  disabled****
 USSMontereyCVL26_1944                 disabled****
 USSLangleyCVL27_1944                  disabled****
 USSCabotCVL28_1944                    disabled****
 USSBataanCVL29_1944                   disabled

I then disabled #WAW_00 EngineMod in JSGME and tested the carriers again. In the above list, those marked "disabled" now have the catapult function working correctly.

Those marked "disabled/both", the catapult does not work with either EngineMod.

Those marked "disabled****", the catapult function works but player a/c spawns on the right side of the ship and does not engage with the catapult until at least 2/3rds of the way along the cat rail.

Asheshouse is looking at the ships in CUP, so maybe this is on his "to do" list.

Hope this has helped,

Regards,

Bergkamp

WOW thanks a lot!
thats about as thorough a test for US carriers as can be :)
incidentally, I see that your test found that only the modded Essex seems to have troubles and this is the one I used in my first tests..
I might need to check some more US carriers then as most of them seem to be working properly then...
funnily, on some of the British carriers I got troubles with the Cats too, might also need further testing as I positioned the aircraft close to the edge of the Cats and did not taxy further down;

anyhow, thank you very very much for the thorough testing, it seems that the modded Essex is the main problem child here then together with the CVLs...
