Question re: restore points
« on: March 08, 2016, 08:33:06 PM »

Sorry for the dumb question, I'm an oldie trying to get into IL-2 but I need clarification on the installation procedure for restore points.

On Module 2 (DOF) Pt 06 gives me the instruction to place a '-' in front of #DOF directory.  That I understand.

But when I get to the next restore point at Pt 10 it give me the same instruction.  So am I supposed to put the '-' before the #DOF directory that was created installing Pt 06 or am I correct in assuming it is referring to the directory I already placed the minus sign in front of?

hi, and welcome to the forums
i always believe the only dumb questions aare the ones never asked, and a firm believer in always asking if you're unsure of a step, as you have done.
the answer is easy enough - if you are testing your install between each update, as advised, then the folder from part 6 that you initially put a '-' in front of is entirely superceded by the folder of part 7.
if your game loads and works correctly with part 7 installed, then it's quite safe to now delete the part 6 folder completely.
the folder that you are left with, when you get to part 10, is now the one that you add the '-' in front of.
it's just a form of keeping a safe backup in case your next part is faulty.
once you ascertain that the latest part is working, it's again safe to entirely delete the old one with the '-'.
so, no, it's not referring to the one you originally added the '-' in front of.
it's now referring to the existing folder of your latest part before the next restore point.
it assumes you have deleted the older folder, at this point - which is explained in the instructions, but which could be confusing to some - which is why you've done the right thing by asking.
have i explained it clearly for you? let us know if you still have any doubts... ;)

Thanks for the excellent explanation and for the welcome. :)

Makes more sense to me now.  Anyways I did finish installing all parts of the DOF module and the game seems to be loading ok.  Will move forward installing the remaining modules.

This C.U.P. project is huge!  Can't imagine all the work that has gone into implementing it.
