Monty's Spanish Civil War for TGA
« on: April 26, 2016, 04:24:01 AM »

THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR:
Conversion of old missions is never as interesting, for me, as writing fresh material.  We have all looked at mods and maps and some of the mechanics of illustrating the Spanish Civil War.  Despite some very good campaigns, for earlier versions of Il2, we have barely scratched the surface with regard to the total picture and especially quality scripted missions rendered for the highest standards of the modern game, such as C.U.P. The Golden Age.

THE CAMPAIGNS:
I did a great deal of research for these campaigns.  Beginning with the assembly of a timeline for key events and air battles.  The political situation and international reaction is also tracked in the comments at the start of each briefing.

The aircraft types were studied for dates of introduction, areas of service, material numbers etc.  Not only is this a fascinating period in history, with effects still felt all over the world today, it is also a compelling account of a nation torn apart.  Families were split and terrible attrocities committed, by all sides, as passions ran high.  In the end, the Nazi supported military dictator won and the Facist regime would persist even into a rebuilt modern Europe!

There are two sides to the conflict; the Spanish Republicans; the democratically elected left wing government of Spain and the Spanish Nationalists; also known as the rebels.  The Nationalists were supported by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.  The support went far beyond simple materiel and supplies.  Germany and Italy had active fighting units and air forces in the field.  Nominally under Spanish Nationalist command and wearing the rebel colours these units, particularly the Legion Condor and the Aviazione Legionaria, were certainly directed by their respective national commanders.

Because of this setup the campaigns have five nations involved from the Il2 Career Selector:

ES - Spanish Republican
RU - Soviet Union (supporting the Republicans)
SP - Spanish Nationalist
DE - Legion Condor (supporting the Nationalists)
IT - Aviazione Legionaria (supporting the Nationalists)

OLD CAMPAIGNS - DO THEY ALSO WORK IN CUP?
You get to decide!  You have the tools in front of you.  All major campaign builders have already stated: If you want to take old missions apart in FMB and improve them or make them compatible for another version, go ahead!

Read the attached manual for more tips and information on FMB and C&C within CUP.

Instead of questions along the lines; "this campaign worked in 410 but not in CUP or 412" - Fix it and post it, or write a new one.  C.U.P. 412 has more content than ever before, its worth writing new missions and campaigns.

Great work!
Good to see TGA module coming alive.(not the poor relative anymore)
SCW campaigns are great for novice pilots to understand the
basics of air combat, gives you a little extra time to think! (Sometimes).

Having learnt the basics of FMB when trying to convert SCW missions I think
its time for me to start to read up on flights of this time period in order to produce
something of my own.
