Hi Monty!
Thank you very much for all the hours you've spent devoted to our entertainment!

Being Spanish, I appreciate very much your new campaign. And I loved the way you introduced it:
"There are two sides to the conflict; the Spanish Republicans; the democratically elected left wing government of Spain and the Spanish Nationalists; also known as the rebels.  The Nationalists were supported by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. "

I'm sorry that too many people in Spain are not able to describe Spanish Civil War so accurately as you do in such a short text. Here, too many people still consider that the Republican Government was basically a failure, and Nationalists saved us from comunism (they forget that actually, comunists in Spain were very few before the war, and they only grew as a response AFTER the beginning of the war).

So, thank you again. I will enjoy flying for the Republic, as my grandparents did (well, they were no pilots, just plain soldiers). And maybe I could give a choice for the Nationalists, just for the fun of it, but probably as much as I fly for Nazis.

P.D. I would be glad to help in case it is needed (Spanish translations, or similar). Don't hesitate to ask.

To be objective about historical (and contemporary) events is something we should all strive for isn't it?  Even more so the ability to debate openly is something I passionately avocate.  People can have different opinions and a variety of ideas but when I hear someone say "you can't say that", which is an all too common refrain these days, therein is the death of free thought and freedom of speech.

A Spanish presentation would be an excellent idea which I'm sure you could do well.  I also enjoy the historical context and try to include contemporary quotes and sayings in the briefings.  If you have any suggestions for anything like this to be included I would be delighted to do so.

Thank you again; such an endorsement encourages me to try even harder.

I'm downloading CUP just for these campaigns, will try them asap. Should you need some help in skinning or information just let me know. I ain't no expert but as an avid reader of biographies and history books from that era perhaps I can help a little.

One campaign features a single Hawker Fury.  The Republicans only actually flew one, a single Hawker Fury, in the defence of Madrid.  You get to fly it, with no parachute, to see if you could keep the airframe intact for 8 missions - no second chances.

BTW, they had three Furys which came unarmed from the UK. The vickers were installed once the battle begun. They received the code numbers 4-1, 4-2 and 4-3. The first and third were used in fighting up until mid-1938, but from late 1936 only one of them was still in flying conditions and was used for spares for the other.
The 4-2 flown by Félix Urtubi was shot down by Garcia-Morato in , but unlike what he said in his memories (that the pilot bailed out), Urtubi managed to crash-land but failed to set the Fury on fire. The Fascists captured the plane and restored it. The new code he was given was the 4W-1, as you can see in some pictures and skins.

What interesting detail on the Furies Tofolo. - Do you have skins for these or can you make them?  It would be interesting to expand on the idea and make a really special set of missions for this heroic little plane.

It clearly shows that life is not black and white or good vs evil. Two sides of the same coin?
What it is crystal clear is that there is a big deal of "Group Thinking" nowadays. Reading to make up your mind and not to let other to do the thinking for you is the key.

Classic. I've had a copy in my personal library for some years. You're right; after nearly 35 years, it's still one of the best studies of  a very complex situation and set of events.

Absolutely right guys - Beevor is quite brilliant.  The most frightening thing about this complex study is to see the lessons of history being so widely ignored today.  People generally don't appreciate that it has all happened before, time and again (ignorance, fear, religion, racism, corporate control of the media, bribery, corruption and politicians you can't trust - which means ALL OF THEM).

As a society, as a species, we learn too slowly and forget history too quickly.

Anyways - back in the saddle and have completed seven of the 1936 campaigns - so definately have stuff to upload shortly while I complete the others and update the SCW Manual to go with them.  Really enjoying these campaigns and flying all of those classic aircraft.

Testing last night, more great CUP-412 mass taxi movements.  Airfields brought to life...

Just installed it! Definitely gives you a feel for a pre-WWII scenario....and I understand why the Germans did so well and gave them the advantage for the up-coming war that followed.
