... when satisfied I suppose I should post the lot, with due recognition of agracier's fine foundation upon which I foisted my little tweaks.

Actually, it might be best to supply my stuff to agracier, whereupon he could review it and thence pass on in an update that which he feels to be worthy.

Guys, just keep on doing and modifying and making changes as much as you want. Maps I post are public domain as far as I am concerned. Do whatever you want with them.

besides, ever since I got a 4k screen, I just cannot get Il-2 to work anymore, and that includes the map-maker. I've tried many fixes, had the local computer nerds look for a solution. All for nought. I simply cannot get Il-2 working properly. My last hope is to get a new machine sometime after March when, as rumors have it, a new generation of generation of MBs and cpu's will be available. Or so I am told at any rate ... ha ha.

So, just keep on modding the map ... don't pay me any attention. It will all be good, I am certain ...

I'll strive to do it justice!

Cheers!

Glenn,

I took the freedom and ignorance to quote some of your previous statements..

Code: [Select]
I simply made all of these places on map_t take the texture for water2. Now all is fine.
Be careful with water2 in general, this is usually - not speaking of this map - the texture and slot for shallow water.
Using it on other places can lead to very unpleasant texture results, if you take this as a general approach.

BTW it is very long ago since I started working on maps and last edited one, so even these slot numbers and RGB values I had to look up again.

Code: [Select]
I also made up a coral texture for Water2 that has a tiny bit more 'structure' and a stronger color cast that's more greenish.
For a load of beautiful shallow textures you may want to revisit SAS~Bombsaway's shallow textures, ah, not revisit: Visit.
Under maps/Textures on our forum.

Good Luck. Map making or editing can be a bitch. Gave up longer ago when I realized I'd never reach agracier's or Uufflakke's level.

If I were a 'real' map maker I'd rework Munda's airstrip and add the airstrip at Vila on SE Kolombangara Island.

Munda was oriented a bit north of E, at about 75 degrees. It had a couple of curving taxiways, one each N and S of the strip. And the strip was located W of its placement on this map, almost running to the shore at the SW extremity of Munda Point.

In note also no taxi points; landing planes simply vanish upon reaching about the midpoint of the runway. And the spawn point for planes taking off is at the midpoint of the runway (at least when taking off toward the E; I've not tried toward the W.)

The heights of the crater on Kolombangara are in real life essentially completely forested. I'll likely change from the current bare rock texture.

By the way, I don't have the unlocked FMB, it probably not being compatible with 4.08. I use Photoshop and the map_c tool. I prefer to manually fix coastline mismatches, rather than rely on the automated tool for which one has no real control. ;)

Hi WxTech.

Did some work on this map a while ago : https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,8484.0.html

Unfortunately the micro airstrip I made used a special behavior of 409 ( and earlier ), that 410 and above don't have... but Kia secret base is not historical anyway.
[ However in 412, taxi to take-off works well for small planes. AI landing no longer possible. ]

My rework from areal photographs was intensive on Vella Navella island and the Baracoma airfield; plus lot of coastlines anywhere were corrected, when seen.
Airfields elsewhere were repaired when I used them: leveled the runways and taxi waypoints adjusted to work ; they may be those you mentioned...

I have not solved parking issues at Baracoma since game level changes; it changes landing and parking behavior a lot.
The latest alterations I may have done since my last upload are now included in the update v2.4 patch at bottom of post.
