This is an old, old bug. It used to apply to all modded aircraft. I thought it had been eradicated but it rears its ugly head again. You are quite right: bring up a picture of the plane before you go to the 'plane' tabs and the problem goes away. Weird, but it works.

Had the same issue. I found out the following, which for me solved the nasty bug:
Yes but as soon as you leave the mission and the FMB recharges ... the problem arises!  :-X

Very true and thus you'll need to do the preview thingy every time :( but at least this procedure keeps the FMB from crashing :)

This is an old, old bug.

I've also heard it's an old bug. I've had small problems occasionally with other planes such as He-219, but not any as persistent as with the Halifax.

Alas, I do not have time. Because upon returning to the FMB there is the problem.
Note: Do ALT + F to open the "file" tab and then do ALT + Q to exit the FMB ...!

Yes very old bug... Tempest... Uhu... etc...

I would expect to see some error log when that FMB issue occurs.
Anyone mind to show his log.lst?

my game just crashes

in such cases we always need the log!

Read how to get the log here, and the instant log here.

Important: read here which part(s) from the log to post
and how to post it. (code option!)
