Meteor F2-40
« on: May 17, 2016, 01:35:30 PM »

The Metropolitan-Vickers F.2 was an early turbojet engine and the first British design to be based on an axial-flow compressor. It was an extremely advanced design, using a nine-stage axial compressor, annular combustor, and a two-stage turbine. It first powered a Gloster Meteor in November 1943, out-performing similar models from Power Jets.

Production quality versions were tested on the F.9/40M (Gloster Meteor) s/n DG204/G which made its first flight on 13 November 1943. These were installed in underslung nacelles, in a manner similar to the mounting of the engines of the Messerschmitt Me 262

In spite of this excellent start, it was considered unreliable and never saw use during the war. In the post-war era a number of engines had much higher performance, and interest in the F.2 waned. The potential of the engine and the investment did not go to waste, however, the design was passed from Metropolitan-Vickers to Armstrong Siddeley when Metrovick left the gas turbine business. Armstrong Siddeley produced a larger version as the successful Sapphire.

Please note :
1.       This is an add-on to the original Gloster Meteor pack - You must have that installed
2.       You must have the HD skins mod installed to use it straight out of the box (who doesn't  :-| ) or alternatively reduce the default skins to 1024x1024

Thank you very much Glynn, great mod!
That's exactly the type of Jets I love to see in IL-2 because
  • It's a very well made mod, looks perfect and installs flawlessly
  • The plane fits into the IL-2 1946 timeframe
  • It's not supersonic and does not carry fancy missiles
  • It's historically accurate
  • It's british 8)
  • And not to forget this plane features a highly advanced technical invention of it's time.
Axial flow compressors were all but popular at that time and only few manufacturers managed to build successful engines of that type back then.

Thanks again and best regards - Mike

I am trying to keep my threads as short as possible to allow those who need help, but have  a short attention span,  to scan them more easily.  ;)

However, I would like to say thanks for all of the positive comments, it is always nice to be "appreciated".   :D
So if your post has disappeared then that means I have read it and either been pleased that you enjoy my work and/or corrected the bug you have reported.

Thanks again,
