I liked the mod but found the fact disappointing that none of the combined JERO_TOM_Cromhunt cockpits with tinted front shields and reflection overhaul went into this.

Also TBH I also prefer the Red_Fox90 P-51D canopy overhaul. Rest looked quite nice to me, good work, especially liked the early P-51A overhaul.

Sad if there were no FM changes....P-51FMs suck by default.

Still a great mod and I especially thank CWatson for being kind enough to point me to the DL links.
(Visually as non 3D guy I really cannot complain, only personally prefer the Red_Fox90 canopies, that is all..;) )

True the stock P-51 "suck" as you say. But with some (lots) of practice, they can be tamed. Have 3 brothers and we used to fly 2v2 dogfights daily. I'm here to tell you that with a steady hand and good situational awareness, the stock -51s can be nasty little killers. Human players tend to push the envelope in ACM situations, so to survive you learn to fly your plane on the edge of its capability, How to keep the best speed in any given situation, and how to see the opponents move before he makes it. And while I used to feel the .50 calls were under powered, I have found that six .50s will bring down nearly anything. You just need a good solid hit( it doesn't hurt to be a good deflection shooter).

Indeed the P-47s are similar in that they can be frustrating to fight in. But eight .50s are overkill, and the huge fighters will surprise you in capable hands.

P.S. Situational awareness and lightning fast adaptability are crucial.

Anyway, Sorry to derail this thread, back to the topic at hand. This is a lovely overhaul!

@ SAS~Tom2; I have placed this mod in CUP/#WAW and deleted all classfiles and the two D20 cockpit folders and put F-Red's P-51B and C files in. Everything seems to work and the game uses the 'default' CUP cockpits and Freddy's B and C. So in this way you can use your own favourite.  BTW where are can I find these 'Red_Fox90 P-51D canopy overhaul'?
Mod seems incompatble with D-5 early; the oversised pilots head is sticking trough the canopy. Also in V2 the exhausts of the default D-5 are floating somewhere over the right wing. Using the folder from V1 cured this for me.

Barnsey's pilot seems a bit undersized when compared to the default B/C pilot, or is that tbecause I'm used to the default? I personally don't like Barnsey's pilot, this no-neck only wears his own uniform.

Edit; there's a fix for the floaiting exhausts at FM now.

@Mick; I read the post and its attitude is 'FM ish' if you don't like my mod you are .... Thats why I can't and will not post overthere. My post here states clearly that I personally don't like Barnsey pilot figure, so whats wrong with that? The 3d update further is well done, although I must get used to the shape of the 'D' but perhaps I was used to the default form as well. If you cant stand that some people rather see another cockpit repaint or pilot figure...My last words on this as I dont want to start of another 'war' for something futile.

 o_O     :-X
We say "de gustibus non est disputandum" I think every one is free to use the pilots who believe .. I personally think that the Barnesy pilots are a huge step forward in gaming realism, but I realize that to many this  not care, even if I believe that those who are more interested in any "shooter game" perhaps have wrong address .....

Henkypenky:
Was referring to another mod...I do not fly P-51Ds a lot since I do not like the aspect ratio of the front windscreen and while the P-51s>  ;) Fresco...may be well flyable---I fly them since let's say 2003--they still suck IM book.
I freely admit if I had the cash for a new rig and all the DCS crap I'd fly them in DCS. IMO IL-2 is often close to arcade (read: crap)...as for flying surfaces modelled (means: wings, no fuselage or finetune or complex surface modelling)...For what I love IL-2 for is the early Mustangs and some of the 4.09m B/C/A FMs.

If you want a good modelled WWII FM fly the Jugs reloaded, they totally rock. I am sure if CWatson made a P-51 FM mod that would also rock, like his FMs a lot.

As for this mod I only fly early Stangs in 4.12 () and the new 3D etc looks stunning.
I have a dedicated all reworked P-51A pit but one tiny detail sucks so I did not publish it. :-[
Maybe once I am less frustrated.

-Thanks for this mod.-P-51s always cause some emotions in me, one of my favoruite WWII series.  ;)  o_O :-[

Cheers

To get this straight: My venting was not aimed at FreeIL-2 Modding, I am frustrated with Mustangs since I fly IL-2.
This mod obviously gives a lot of eye candy. :P

As for Red_Fox90's canopies, I meant these..again, matter of taste. Barnesy's are sure more detailed etc...the only thing I really preferred in these below is the bubble shape of P-51Ds and F-51Ds.
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,32162.0.html

Gonna fly my new P-51A a lot, be sure. :)
Also love the B and C models. ;)  :)

For the cockpit, I meant these, a collection of the best IL-2 P-51D elements combined, by PA_Jeronimo (already included), PA_Jeronimo (again) (not included, tinted option and cromhunt textures=an overall pack with my own edits on top):
To be found in "my" cockpit thread in the pits section where all the jet crap is located as well. :D

PS:

I am atm thinking about finishing this cockpit, at least improving it, and already have made myself a working plan.

This pit contains work my Bolox, Jeronimo, cromhunt and myself a.o. Weak points: Mirror(s), gunsight (not to be fixed by me), panel colours (being accepted, there is not one singular P-51A layout and even dedicated GB versions of the latter).

And, I have to say it with gratitude, I absolutely love these 2 new 3Ds:

 :P

Thanks to all modders involved!  :)
