Howitzer and other artillery questions
« on: June 07, 2016, 05:27:48 AM »

I have been trying to employ the US Howitzer [M2A1_105mm] in missions. But I run into issues. Not sure whether this is a CUP or a general Il-2 issue.
First, to shoot, the gun must have an absolutely clear field of fire and, not only that, be sited well above the potential targets. Otherwise it remains silent.
Even with a clear field and elevated, when it does fire, the shell burst is at best 100 or so yards in front, even though the targets are positioned further down range and easily hittable by other artillery. I’ve muddled with the range in the technics.ini but without change.
I have somewhat similar issues with the Soviet and Japanese howitzers but they ultimately work.
Has anyone experienced this issue?
Also, on the same general topic, why are there two M2A1_105mms listed in the technics.ini?
Finally, what happened to the “Arty barrage” which was available in prior Il-2 versions, meaning the artillery piece, not the C and C effect?
Thanks.

There is the same problem with the tanks!
I guess the question comes from random angle of the shot.
Sometimes the angle is too closed (too short shot) ... sometimes too open (too long shooting) ...  :-X

In my experience if a gun fires in the wrong direction its usually because of a wrong hook position in the msh, wflyer modified 3d could cause this.

If they fire, they fire in the right direction just woefully short.

I'm also amazed that AA, such as the Bofors, will fire at any target, even ground targets, at extraordinary distances over any terrain and with surprising accuracy.

I reverted to the stock 3d model but it does the same thing, which indicates that its not the hook.
