Opening extracted tga's and tgb's

Not sure where to post this question, so , I thought I'd start here.
Extracted plane tga and tgb files from sfs, and none of my image programs will open them, not Adobe Elements, Gimp, Serif, Photo explosion, nada.  I think I ran into this years ago with mod generated tga's and I can't remember the solution.  For some reason, Jonesy come to mind.
Any clues?
