AI gunnery accuracy
« on: September 07, 2016, 02:59:14 PM »

Hey guys.

I have been flying around on the the SAS hyperlobby server and the AI have gone through intensive gunnery training:)  They are very accurate.   So I figured I needed to do a little more training myself.  I have set up 1 vs 2 on QMB in ace and veteran mode.  Well to say the least I forgot how those AI can get some pretty miraculous shots off.  Very frustrating.  Is there a mod to tone down their unbelievable accuracy with out toning down their flying skills?  I did see the turret mod but I am not sure if that affects the AI pilot gunnery.

My current single player IL2 of choice is of course the current CUP version.

Thanks

Hi Creature,

The SAS Hyperlobby server is a little special since it uses Ultrapack 3, which is based on IL-2 4.10.1, which in turn has the "old" Java-only AI code which in turn has the nasty "sniper gunner" bug.
However the SAS server is also equipped with our Ultrapack 3 Patch Pack, which since the 200 series patch version includes the most recent IL-2 4.13.2 AI code where the "sniper gunner" bug has been solved.
This means that the AI on our server pretty much behaves like the AI of e.g. CUP.
The AI's accuracy very much depends on the skill level set by the mission builder.
For instance when you fly Quick Missions in CUP for training, then most of the time the AI gunners you're facing will have default skill level.

On our server however you might also face Veteran or even Ace level gunners.
I know that some of our mission builders for instance like to make one bomber per flight an ace, so that fighting the bombers isn't just turkey shooting.
Furthermore there's one special thing about UP3 + Patch Pack where the gunners of a player's plane are always a little more accurate than gunners of AI planes.
This has been implemented in order to make bomber missions a little more attractive for players even in heavily crowded fighter environments.

TLDR: AI gunners might be veterans or aces, in that case you must not attack them from dead six or "dead" will be the last word you can read.
Plan your attack, try to imagine what it would look like from a gunner's perspective and attack in a way so that you're always a moving target as much as possible from his point of view.

Best regards - Mike
