Windows 10 updated
« on: September 27, 2016, 12:52:27 PM »

Dear Sirs,
two days ago the guys from Windows updated Windows 10.( their tenth anniversary they said)
Since then, when I launch the game the command "escape" has no more effect. i have to wait until the movie showing the dogfight zeros against f3f is finished then to "control alt delete" repeatedly to regain control of the game.
Any help available?
Best regards.

Go to your config.ini and disable the intro movie.

Like this:

[game]
Arcade=0
HighGore=2
mapPadX=0.6689453
mapPadY=-0.046875
viewSet=36
Intro=0    <============  HERE, 0= No  ( or Tun Off ) ---   1= Yes  ( or Turn On )
NoSubTitles=1
NoChatter=1

Dear Cafs,
it worked the first time but after a second trial I still have trouble with the key"escape". Maybe it has something to do with my keyboard?
Thank you.
Regards.

It's not the 10th anniversary but the Windows 10 first anniversary ;)

Did you need to "escape" a second time?

So the intro started again.
If your game rewrites the config.ini, change the properties to "READ ONLY".

I have Win 10 with the last patch working flawlessly, with IL-2 4.12.2 CUP WAW 20 of course.

Dear Cafs,
I wrote Intro=1 to get the intro again then
I launched the game and let it go until I got the  grey screen with the choice single or pilot career aso.
But then the arrow controlled by my mouse doesn't obey and doesn't move.The arrow is yellow.
After some control-alt-delete, I regain control of the mouse, but not always. The arrow is then white as usual.
Before the update of Windows 10 I didn't get this trouble.
My keyboard is ok.
Regards.

It´s some strange joke that happens from time to time after updates! I usually press the win key or ALT+TAB to get to the desktop then I ALT+Tab back into the game. That usually works. One other thing, don´t move the mouse until the game has loaded at least 60% then it doesn´t lock the mouse! Don´t know how or why but  it works.

Concur with Flying H,  use your window key to exit the game to your desktop, then click the game icon in your task bar to re-enter the game.  What I understand is that the mouse will freeze if it is moved during the game's start up.

Funny thing.
I'm using Windows 10 on two PCs too, and none of them shows this issue.
Just for reference, there's a "mouseUse" setting in conf.ini which per default equals "2", which means that IL-2 uses an "internal" mouse cursor (the yellow one).
"1" would be the windows default cursor (the white one) but using it rarely makes sense.

Now the thing about the yellow il2 mouse cursor is this:
When IL-2 gets started in "mouseUse=2" mode (default, yellow cursor), it installs a low level hook on the system mouse.
Since IL-2 doesn't use multithreading to handle events like mouse cursor movements, during launch time of IL-2 the mouse gets stuck until the game loads up to a certain percentage.
At 70% for the first time mouse movements will become possible.
That's also the stage where IL2 will recognize for the first time that it might have lost input focus (Ctrl-Alt-Del or Alt+Tab).

As a result, once you kick up IL2 the mouse freezes system wide until IL2 reaches 70%.
If you Alt+Tab or Ctrl+Alt+Del or "Windows key" out of the game before it reached 70%, you will see the Windows Mouse cursor (the white one) but it cannot move since IL2 isn't able to recognize that it lost focus and therefore cannot release the mouse hook at that stage.
At this point however all you have to do is to wait for IL2 to load up to 70% (this can even happen in the background where you don't see it) and the mouse cursor will start moving again.

Best regards - Mike

Sorry to intervene in your bowling game ...
I hope I understood your problem!  :-X
I just bought a laptop (HP - Win10 64bits) and I copy / paste my UP2! While working immediately ... except ...
I realized that all the keys "Escap / F1 / F2 / ... / F12" does not work!
By searching the Internet I found the cause: the "fn" key is reversed!

Test if your keys F2 (external view) and F3 (flyby) work!
If not ... then it will make a change in the BIOS of your computer.

Dear Dougw, dear all,
it works the way you explained:pressing the windows key then calling the game again. The arrow is yellow.
Maybe I made an observation mistake during my previous test.
Thank you all for your help and explanations.
Best regards.
P.S. I just made a last test before posting this message in order to be sure and it works straight. Data processing works in mysterious ways.
