problem with strange airfield texturing effect
« on: October 16, 2016, 09:15:42 AM »

Hello

I have kind of a tech question but since it deals with a map I post it in here.

After a while I wanted to return to the Kanto map to play a campaign and noticed a strange effect I have never seen before.

Certain airfields look like this:

- The map has worked previously, I have been flying on it before without trouble. It has just been a while (and some added mods) ago.
- only this type of airfield is affected. The plain areas with the surrounding taxi way, for example AD45. all other airfields look normal.
- my base install is DBW1.71 with a lot of add on mods.
- I have never ever seen such an effect before on any map.

- I manually tried to change the airfield graphic files in the load.ini and I can see the changes in the textures but these strange "street graphics" always remain "on top" of everything.

What kind of mod could affect this kind of thing??
How can I fix this? Is this something that can be addressed with editing the load.ini maybe?

Thanks!!:)

Its a completely outdated method of making an airfield flat. I checked the maps actors static and it seems to be a plate object called: Plate$Kronstadt7.  It should be transparent but somehow a mat or tga file must have got lost/not included.  You need to extract these files and check what texture they use and then replace it with a trasparent tga.

3do\Buildings\Russia\Piter\Kotlin\Kronstadt07\Matt1D0o.mat
3do\Buildings\Russia\Piter\Kotlin\Kronstadt07\Matt1D0p.mat

oh! thanks.

EDIT:

I was able to solve it! Thanks to your help - and some further search on naming of kronstadt plates files here.
all I had to do was to add two transparent tga files:

mapmods_kanto\3do\Buildings\Russia\Piter\Kotlin\Kronstadt07\skin1o.tga
mapmods_kanto\3do\Buildings\Russia\Piter\Kotlin\Kronstadt07\skin1p.tga

So now the Kanto map shows correctly - no idea if this had any other effect. I might find out.

so, I have no idea how these files got "lost" or overwritten. I can find no other folder or entry named kronstadt07 in any other mod directory I have... maybe they got deleted when I dumped some other mod some time...

The fix mentioend above was cvausing another issue, I could not save missions on Kanto map anymore.
I finally found he real Problem and wanted to post it here as well:

It was the Poland1944 map that caused a conflict with the Kanto map. I found it by manually looking through all my map mods....

The Poland1944 map alters Kronstadt01 graphic file, which is obviously connected to all other Kronstadt files, which then caused the graphic bug in the Kanto map kronstadt07 plate for me. The Poland map exchanges a blank file for a city street file.

I now deleted the Poland 44 map and all works as designed for Kanto map again.
