7 Bf-109K-4's from III./JG77 during Operation Bodenplatte.
« on: November 02, 2016, 04:44:56 PM »

Included are 7 skins, each in both 24 bit and 8 bit formats, as well as 8 bit blanks. This is very much built on Cpt. Farrels work, and is a tribute to him in a way.

All seven participated in the Operation Bodenplatte, the Luftwaffe's coordinated large-scale effort to knock out several large allied airfields in northern France on the morning of New Years Day 1945, largely by use of fighters strafing. These aircraft are depicted as I believe them to have appeared on that morning, JG 77 was tasked with attacking the RAF airfield of Antwerp-Duerne.

Yellow 10, W.nr. 330196 was flown by Lt. Heinrich Hackler, Kapitän of 11./JG77 and leader of the entire III. Guppen during the attack on the morning of January 1st. Hackler died during that morning as his 109 crashed, likely due to enemy AA fire. A great loss, as Hackler was one of teh most experienced and successful pilots of JG 77, having joined in 1940, and accumitaled 56 victories and been awarded the Ritterkreuz. I'm unsure whether this aricraft had had the green and white fuselage band of JG 77 by the time of Operation Bodenplatte, it never seems to be depicted as such.

White 12, W.nr. 330174, flown by Fhr. Rolf Braband of 11./JG77, Braband crash-landed during the operation, but escaped unhurt and was taken prisioner.

Red 7, W.nr. 330168, flown by Uffz. Johann Twietmeyer of 10./JG77, Twietmeyer was hit by enemy 90mm AA during the operation and had to belly-land, while trying to make his way back to German territory he was caputerd by Canadian soldiers.

White 17, W.nr. 330230, flown by Uffz. Heinrich Munninger of 10./JG77 and Twietmeyer's wingman during the morning of January 1st, Munninger was hit by AA and tried to crash land, but was killed during the ensuing crash. (this skin is mostly by Cpt, Farrel, slightly modified and updated by me)

White 13, W.nr. 330204, flown by Lt. Herbert Abendroth of 9./JG77, he was hit while attacking an enemy AAA battery, belly-landed and was taken prisoner, note the machines W.nr. written of the wings leading edge.

White 1, W.nr. 330265, flown by Hptm. Franz Menzel of 9./JG77, Menzel returned from the raid on Antwerp-Duerne on January 1st.

Blue 3, W.nr. 330177, flown by Fw. Hans Rössner of 12./JG77, Blue 3 returned from operations on the morning of January 1st.

Old skins from his now defunct website that I've modified to make new ones, mainly.
