Help with installation of JTW
« on: November 04, 2016, 09:35:26 PM »

Hello everyone!  I have just very recently gotten into modding IL-2, so I downloaded the latest SAS Modact and updated my game version to the latest version as well.  Then I read about the CUP modules and i really wanted to install JTW, as well as DOF.  I tried to follow the instructions as best as possible, but when I went to test them by changing to Jet War mode in the IL-2 Selector, the game tries to launch, the resolution of my computer screen changes as I have it set up, but the game itself fails to launch and it sends me back to the selector, both with JTW and DOF.  I can't identify where my mistake was, as there are so many parts to the mods.  Can anyone help?  :(

Possible RED FLAG here my friend.  For many reasons, discussed all over this site and especially in this Forum, the Il2 Version used for CUP is 4:12:2m - TD Version 413, made without the co-operation of anyone else and with a sweeping disregard to any other modders, is IMHO thoroughly discredited.  TD Patch 413 is a mod breaker and pretty much a useless dead end as far as this modded game goes.

For example: You have SPECIFICALLY stated an interest in the Modules DAWN OF FLIGHT and THE JET AGE.  These are very interesting arenas in which to fly and I totally understand that.

The latest TD Patch (413), as with ALL TD Patches - IS LIMITED TO WWII.

It is the modders and code writers from SAS who are responsible for the fact that modern jets, helicopters, steam powered catapults, and a thousand other things that Team Daidalos have no interest in, work in Il2.  The SASEngineMOD is our work - Modern Jets, like the F/A18, AV8B and F16 will not work without it.  If you take that facility out, you have no modern jets.

WWI Biplanes and Modern Jets are not to everyone's taste.  But the variety of choice and new features is probably the biggest reason that Il2 is still alive today.  Focussing on WWII, to the exclusion of everything else is not really a clever idea, is it?

The sheer amount of code that originates here, and the vast amount of mods used by TD, that originate here as well, is something that is widely mis-understood across the entire Il2 Community.

SAS1946.com is indeed the place to come for the best WWI and Jet Age mods (and any other mods too) - TD413 deliberately breaks those mods.

Therefore:  We fly Version 4:12:2m - For this version I cannot praise Team Daidalos highly enough.  412 is the definitive version of the modded game.

CUP is 412 - Its often referred to as 412 CUP in order to remind us that it will stay that way unless and until SAS modders have enough of the source code to correct the oversights made by Team Daidalos.

INSTALL GUIDE FOR 412 CUP

CUP is easy and foolproof - I promise you.

Thousands have done it and are there now.  The principles involved are necessary and learned through experience.

Following the steps correctly will GUARANTEE success.

Of course there is plenty of help here providing you have a willingless to take those steps and accept our advice.

Firstly:  This is the best link for the downloads which are sequential in nature:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,47647.0.html

Second:  Read the CUP Manual - Many questions are answered before you even think of them.

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,49964.0.html

(No really, read through it - Especially the pages about modding, logging and posting.)

Third: THE BASICS

Like any Checklist - You must establish and confirm each step before moving to the next.

Tick them off:

1) - Il2 version 4:12:2m installed, patched and running.
2) - SAS Modact Selector - Checked Stock Game

Its actually quite time consuming to check everything so use your intuition too; fire up the Stock game, try a few features, open up FMB, QMB, check out the aircraft, confirm its there and working.  Confirm its patched to 4:12:2m and you see the loading message.

3) - Adding the first Module.

C.U.P. Module-01 - Map Expansion (MME)

There are only 14 Parts - Install in sequence by UnZIP/UnRAR to the main directory.

This is perfectly safe and does effect anything else in the sim.

4) You are interested primarily in the modules DOF and JTW

Don't try to do too much at once - Verify each step by making small manageable steps.

5) Try the first 4 Parts of DOF first - Direct Install as before

6) Try the first 4 Parts of JTW - Direct Install as before

7) Make sure you understand LOG.TEXTFILE

CHECK LOGFILE CAPABILITY:

WITHOUT A LOGFILE YOU ARE NOT MODDING - YOU ARE GUESSING

1) Please check these lines are present in your CONF.ini:

[Console]
LOG=1
LOGFILE=logfile.txt
LOGKEEP=0
LOGTIME=0
HISTORY=1024
HISTORYCMD=1024
LOAD=console.cmd
SAVE=console.cmd
FOVlog=1

2) Important: read here which part(s) from the log to post and how to post it. (code option!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Logfile is discussed in the CUP Manual.  The final few lines of the Logfile, following a CTD, will provide the answer and enable a swift correction.  There is always a solution.
