Ceylon 1942 - request for advice please
« on: November 12, 2016, 07:19:40 AM »

Hello to the IL2 Mod community - I have been working my first ever map, a 1:1 scale representation of Ceylon,  for a while and now feel it is ready for some critical appraisal as a work in progress. My intellect, however, does not seem up to the task of working out how to upload it to the SAS website. Would someone be kind enough to explain, step by step, how to do this?
Many, many thanks in advance -

1. Copmpress all the necessary files of your map by e.g. 7zip or similar program.
2. Upload the compressed pack to Mediafire, Ulozto  or similar site. (Find the site by Google)
3. Place the link to SAS into WIP paragraph..

You probably will need 5 posts on the forum to insert a link?
Let us know how you go!

Hi Zoran395

Does that mean I need 5 replies before I can post a link?

you have to have five posts in order to post external links. This is an anti-spambot measure of this forum.

I edited your profile so this should be no issue for you anymore ;)

Here is the download link for Ceylon map
https://www.mediafire.com/file/lnlqxokla7ngw19/Ceylon_1942.7z
Acknowledgements and thanks to; -

Cyberolas
 - for his exquisite reworking of the Singapore map - I have
simply used his textures and many of his static object compositions in the
Ceylon map. The Singapore textures and objects were chosen because they seem
to reflect the atmosphere of pre-war British colonial territories, of which
Ceylon of course was part. Thanks Cyberolas for your incredible work.

Czeck_texan/Fabian Fred
 - for their marvelous work in the Burma Lower map. Similarly to Cyberolas' Singapore
rework, the Burma map has the " British Colonial" feel to it, that would be contemporaneous with
Ceylon. The excellent design of the Rangoon port facilities has simply been copied and
used as a basis for the ports of Colombo and Trincomalee in the Ceylon map.

----------------------------------------------------------
Unzip the downloaded file with 7z if possible.

Unzipped file contains:

Map folder "sq_Ceylon_42"
Textures folder "Singapore"

the folders are contained within the correct folder hierarchy
----------------------------------------------------------

To Load

Place the sq_Ceylon_42 folder in your Maps folder as follows -
Mods(SAS, WAW, etc)/Mapmods/Maps/sq_Ceylon_42

Add the line

sq_Ceylon_42       sq_Ceylon_42/load.ini

to your all.ini in your Mapmods folder

----------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE - If you have already installed Cyberolas'
Singapore map, then you will already have
the "Singapore" textures....But IF NOT, place the Singapore folder as follows

Mapmods/Maps/_Tex/pacific/Singapore

---------------------------------------------------------

I await feedback with gratitude,

regards Squashman

Well done Squashman.  Just took a spin around Ceylon.  I've been wanting to do that for a long time.  Not being a mapmaker, just a consumer, my hat is off to you for this first offering.  Cheers and very well done, indeed.

Hello, Squashman!

I downloaded your Ceylon_42 release in your post of Reply7.

I think your 7z file's folder tree is out of IL-2 1946's map folder structure standard. Isn't it?

In my game folder, map mods are placed in those folder tree (MODS is equal to #SAS, #WAW, etc.)
game root \ MODS \ mapmods \ maps \ each_map_folders and _Tex

I'll test in my own arrangement add \maps\ middle level folder from your folder tree.

Hi Western

Yes indeed, sorry not to make the placement clear - arrange the folders as per usual hierarchy - the Ceylon map works fine with SAS, WAW and HSFX - and as you pointed out the correct pathway is  MODS Folder\mapmods\maps\Ceylon_42 and _Tex

Thanks

Hi Gubi

Thanks for the encouragement - I'm currently also working on a set of missions based on the IJN Indian Ocean Raid 4th to 10th April 1942 - including sub-maps of Eastern India (Bay of Bengal) and the Andaman/Nicobar Islands. Even though the maps are not finished the missions play out well to the Indian Ocean backdrops.
Hoping to post the aforesaid in the very near future

regards
