« on: November 25, 2016, 01:24:16 PM »

This is a 10 mission static campaign of Eddie Rickenbacker, the US highest scoring Ace of WW1.

INSTALLATION NOTES:
Place Rickenbacker_Campaign folder in Missions/Campaigns/US

PLAYING NOTES:
Very Important, when choosing Rank - Pick 1LT in order for the campaign to work properly.

Every mission has random weather and random enemy skills, so each time you play it will be a little different.

Thanks for a great campaign.  I like the briefings and mission structure too.  It is also good to see the 412 taxi feature used so effectively.

Seeing the AI start up beside you and taxi out behind other aircraft on the field is really atmospheric.  For me, this feature alone renders earlier Il2 versions obselete!

I like your scenery too, you clearly know your way around FMB and its enjoyable to view and appreciate another's interpretation and artistic flair for scenery building.

Once you are upgraded to DoF Part-13 you are going to love those extra figures and objects.  When you complete the latest map modules there will be a 'Static_list_FMB' in each mod folder.  You will find this very useful when looking for a particular object amongst 4247!

Thanks again, definately one for my collection...  :)

I was really looking forward to this one. I downloaded and installed the campaign last week, but I didn't test it until this morning. The first mission seems to work just as it should. Sadly, however, I've encountered a problem with the Nieuport 28C, and the problem was reported here:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=53146.msg578085#msg578085

I'll just add three more comments:

I installed DOF Part 13 yesterday, but I would be surprised if this has anything to do with that wonky propeller on the Nieuport 28.

For my first attempt at a test flight, I started the mission with the autopilot engaged. This proved to be a mistake. The engine started itself at full power, but then it stayed there, and this apparently caused the aircraft to hop up and down high and hard enough to break off the landing gear. At that point the aircraft began to crawl along in that odd, Il-2ish way, with the propeller slicing through the ground.  ;D With my own self at the controls, when the engine started I was able to immediately chop the power to 50%, and things proceeded normally from there - at least until the propeller turned into a pair of huge, more or less opaque, solid blades.

I hope the propeller problem can be remedied. I'm also hoping that the SPAD XIII can be added to the DOF inventory.

Thank you KevinHoggard. I am looking forward to more of your work.  8)

Autopilot is a big no with DOF.  Yes, there were autopilot systems available back then, but the Il2 Autopilot is not really a proper model of these.  It simply hands control to the program which then encounters modded FMs it was never designed for.

The AI have the same problems and writing FMB missions includes a fair amount of AI testing to get them to follow the right path.  They do in the end though, because every facet of the waypoints can be programmed.  But human pilots have to be hands on.

The Level Stabiliser is possible to use, and is closer to actual autopilots of the time IMHO.

The Neiuport 28C1, by 101tfs, is one of the most beautiful models we have in DOF.  The prop is biggish, but a problem?  I don't see any.

I also found the little Neiuport very difficult to break, reaching 170mph in a dive and recovering easily from breakaway in high G turns as well.

May I suggest you look at the 'Difficulty' Settings.  There are a bunch of new 412 features that introduced: 'Torque and Gyro Effects' and 'Flutter Effects'.  These options are fine for WWII stock gamers but have a detrimental effect on modded WWI Flight Models.  Turn them OFF from the 'Difficulty' settings at QMB, or in FMB.  I find that Difficulty settings are easiest to access from QMB and once set will stick to the rest of the sim until changed again.

If you have a different 3D to the pictures or some other problem has crept in that I can't replicate I can tell you this with confidence - Of course we can fix it, we can fix anything!

We do have the SPAD SVII - This beautiful example by Kant, with extra textures by vpmedia.  I don't know of any XIII project currently but if you find one please send me a link!

I replied to your other post, I just tried it with part 13 installed. I did not have the prop problem as you experienced.

I did design the campaign with the PALS missionpro Combo activated in the JSGME....

I tested the missions again this morning, and the problem persists. I'm sure that the  mission has nothing to do with this, but to clarify, here are a few screenies I grabbed during another test this morning. The autopilot was NOT on at the time. The first was grabbed just as the engine began to turn over. The prop then had its normal appearance, both from the pilot's seat and in the F2 view:

At the instant the engine fires up, the prop turns into a gigantic whirligig:

A second later, the same thing happens to every other active Nieuport 28 in the mission:

The problem was originally reported yesterday, in the Tech Help category:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,53146.0.html

I'm going to do more test-runs things later today, with a couple of JSGME options activated or de-activated.

There's no JSGME can cause or cure that.  Its a missing texture.  This indicates an install problem, a missing part or a Restore Point not done right.  I would advise cleaning your mod folder first.  Very easy and quick to do.  Delete your entire #DOF folder and use the one from here:

UnRAR/UnZIP Direct to your main Il2 Install:

Will do. Thank you, Monty. If I have any further trouble with this, I'll report it in the appropriate, Tech Help category.
