Nieuport 28C propeller problem
« on: November 30, 2016, 11:55:31 AM »

Was looking forward to trying out KevinHoggard's Rickenbacker campaign, and the Nieuport 28, a type I hadn't flown before. The aircraft behaved normally until about the time I started my take-off roll, at which point the propeller became a pair of solid disc-halves. I was able to take off, but the problem continued:

This is the view from the pilot's seat:

Long ago, I had the very same problem with  the Fokker D.VIII, and I'm happy to say that someone was able to offer a remedy fairly quickly. I hope to have as much luck with the Nieuport. KevinHoggard's campaign, on the other hand, works very well in my DOF, and I highly recommend this:

That is strange, I didn't have that problem at all with the '28.  Did you upgrade DoF with the latest updates? I have not tried anything in DoF since I D/L the updates.

Just tried it.... no problems with the prop on my end

LOL Alfie!  ;D

Did some more testing today. Tried activating and de-activating a few JSGME items, but the song remains the same. While I was at it, I added a few screenies to the general campaign thread (link below) to provide further information. Whether I'm in an F1 or F2 view, as soon as the engine starts running, the prop turns into a huge whirligig:

Tried replacing the entire #DOF folder with a copy of the #DOF included in the CUP Safety Net, but it made no difference. Here's a shot taken this morning, not from KevinHoggard's Rickenbacker Campaign (that the source of the fault is NOT a flaw in the campaign files should go without saying), but from a QMB test flight:

About a year ago I had exactly the same trouble with the Fokker D.VIII. The details of that problem, and how it was solved, can be seen here:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,48756.msg536177.html#msg536177

I tried the Fokker this morning as well, with the new #DOF folder:

To recap the original thread on this, dirtbloxxMC kindly provided a fix in the form of a tga file contained in a dedicated folder to be installed in the #DOF folder. This morning, after grabbing the previous screenie, I shut down my sim, installed a copy of dirtbloxxMC's fix in the new #DOF, and tried it again. The fix still works:

I then set up a QMB mission involving both of the aircraft in question. In this view, predictably, the Nieuports are easy to spot:

As I know absolutely Sweet Fanny Adams about modeling Il-2 aircraft, any help with this problem would naturally be very much appreciated.

Hi EHood! I´m not familiarized with CUP archives but this was an issue for me in DBW. I replaced propellor textures with working ones.

Thank you very much, franju.  ;D That you had the same problem with the very same pair of aircraft is very interesting. I did download Stuka_40's assortment of textures but, frankly, I'm not sure what to do with these. I'm still trying to learn where to find things in CUP, especially in  the module folders. Indeed, I have been advised to install a "new" Nieuport 28, but the folder/file structure described in an available tutorial for installing new aircraft does not match the structure I'm seeing in CUP's current form.
I have a lot to learn.

 ;D ;D  Problem solved!  ;D ;D

With thanks to franju and Monty27, both of whom went out of their way to help; and, agaon, to KevinHoggard for the Rickenbacker Campaign.

Glad you got it worked out. What was the cause and the fix?

Hope you enjoy it
