Question about skin folders
« on: December 19, 2016, 07:38:08 PM »

Hi all,

I'm trying to find what to make for the Skin folder for the AH-1 Cobra... I tried Bell Cobra AH-1 (which is what the plane lists it in FMB) then I tried AH-1 Cobra... which is what the section for the skins is called at M4 Today.

Where can I locate this?

Have you tried the P-39C  or the  P-400.  The P-63C is the King Cobra
In the Air.ini file it lists all the Cobra's in the Sim and the folders are in the Skins folder as well.

P-400             air.P_400 1                                   usa01 SUMMER
P-39D1            air.P_39D1 1                                  usa01 SUMMER
P-39D2            air.P_39D2 1                                  usa01 SUMMER
P-39N1            air.P_39N 1                                   usa01 SUMMER
P-39Q-1           air.P_39Q1 1                                  usa01 SUMMER
P-39Q-10          air.P_39Q10 1                                 usa01 SUMMER
P-63C             air.P_63C 1                                   usa01 DESERT

Sir Rod, he is asking about the Bell AH-1 helicopter, not the Bell Airacobra...
KevinH, for any plane/aircraft in the game, the skin folder must ALWAYS be the same as the first part of the air.ini entry for that aircraft. this is an IL-2 rule, so remember it.
in this instance - my CUP install might not be fully updated, but this is as the entry looks in my air.ini -

AH1-Cobra         air.AH1 1                          NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER

so, in this instance, the skin folder will be AH1-Cobra

simple. rules make life easy. especially in a case like this. ;)

Thank you Malone, that is the answer I was looking for.  Another question, where is the air.ini located?

KevinH, for any plane/aircraft in the game, the skin folder must ALWAYS be the same as the first part of the air.ini entry for that aircraft. this is an IL-2 rule, so remember it.

The exception to the rule are slots with a forward slash, in example:

Fw-190F-8U1       air.FW_190F8U1 2                              g01  SUMMER
Fw-190F-8/PB      air.FW_190F8PB 2                              g01  SUMMER
Fw-190F-8_Late    air.FW_190F8LATE 2                            g01  SUMMER
Fw-190F-9         air.FW_190F9 2                                g01  SUMMER
Fw-190F-9/PB      air.FW_190F9PB 2                              g01  SUMMER
Fw-190G-1         air.FW_190G1 2                                g01  SUMMER

The skin folders for those two examples are Fw-190F-8_PB and Fw-190F-9_PB respectively (the forward slash gets replaced by underscores).

For a quick reference, whenever there's a module update, I send a copy of the air.ini to Documents, then rename the copy (NOT the original, in-game air.ini, of course). At the moment I have the following, renamed copies stashed in Documents:

CUP-DOF-ac-part13
CUP-TGA-ac-part06B
CUP-WAW-ac-part22
CUP-TJW-ac-part10

If I need to find a skin folder name, or just see which aircraft are available in which module, all I have to do is open Documents, then the relevant, renamed copy of the air.ini.
