About Yak-36 SMF HUD
« on: January 10, 2017, 01:04:43 PM »

Hi all!

After trying the Yak-36 SMF from this mod (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,36812.msg405103.html#msg405103) and included in BAT, I am left with a curiosity: what is the oblique bar in this (https://www.sas1946.rocks/images/imageshit/a/img69/134/2lgn.jpg) screenshot?
I am pretty sure it's not an artificial horizon, as you can see in the attached screenshot from my game...

Yak-36 SMF is what-if Jet mod, non historical one.
But its HUD workings are made similar to historical Russian Jets like Su-27 Flanker.

About roll indicator in HUD or traditional analogue meter, Russian one shows not horizontal line, but aircraft's own roll degree.
When the aircraft is roll to left, the line is drawn as tilt to left. Not equal to USA Jets.
In searching google image or YouTube video about those HUD workings, you can see them.

BTW: Your link to Yak-36 pack is one generation old one, not the mod composed in BAT (maybe).

Ahh! Thank you! Finally I have understood how it works...
I was confused by the fact that I compared the position of the line with the real horizon, and I didn't understand how it was almost vertical after a little banking... But now I see that I should have used the horizontal plane of the aircraft as a reference!
This is a video that helped me understand, if someone else has a similar doubt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJl02345vgI
Again, many thanks  :)

The difference between Russian and Western ADI's initially caused a number of high profile accidents.  Following German re-unification the training of Eastern European commercial pilots was eventually changed to help them more easily adjust to Western instrument flying.

The latest upgrades for these aircraft, included in B.A.T., set the Vectored Thrust Keys the same as the AV8B Harrier, which makes them all very easy to fly.  These VTOL/STOL FMs, which also allow for Helicopter flight, are a fantastic breakthrough and amazing to fly.
