Seafang !
« on: February 23, 2017, 02:53:24 PM »

Hello Everybody !  :)

I am currently working on "What if" campaign, flying the Seafang (One of my favourite baby) over Japan in 1946. After many searches, I have only found 1 skin available and it carries Suez operation makings. My request consist of a few skins which will fit a "Tiger Forces" scenario.

Many thanks in advance !  ;D

Cheers,

Poussin

What sort of skin would a 1946, Pacific Theatre, Tiger Force Seafang wear ...?

The REAL Pacific Theater of Operations "Tiger-Force" Lancaster bombers were painted white on top and black on the bottom.
Some were painted all white.

But in most "What if" scenario, you can do whatever paint scheme you wish -for any aircraft.

So,  I guess this would be a possible scheme that could be adapted ...  :-|

Like this maybe...

Yes, that looks great to my eyes  8) Very cool looking in its simplicity of an all white top color.
Great skin GJE52 !

I believe they only used the bottom in black color for night bombing missions , and an all white version was used
for daylight attacks.
Their idea was to make the airplane more cooler on the inside due to long hours of flight under the sun ,
crossing vast spaces of Pacific ocean. But its not very effective as PTO style "camouflage" supposed to look like.
But it does look very cool.

Personally, I have my doubts that this scheme would be a good idea.

I think that, in less than perfect conditions, the probability of a US "ace" mistaking the above Seafang for this.....

.............. would be very high.

....Maybe with identification stripes of some sort, as the allies did during and after D-Day?

After enormous Lancaster bomber and fighter casualties 1946 , I am sure the RAF would think to remove the red spot
just like the U.S. Air Force did,  from its roundels.
Most likely they would do as the Australians did and paint over the red circle with a white color....

...and maybe not.

These are the CAC Mustangs escorting USAF B-29s RAAF's first operation over North Korea.

Hello Everybody !  ;D

Thanks for your comments ! They have enlarged my reflexion : The white Seafang is pretty much cool and I love it ! (Maybe a black  anti-sun glare on the nose and a touch of colour on the rudder and nose will had a bit of fun - sorry I'm a bit of bore !!!) It will fit in the campaign very well and after a few researches, I am also looking for these kinds of Skins :

They are end-of-war standards but will had a lot  realism...And as the campaign is a 15 missions long type, There is plenty of room for diversity !

Many thanks again for your help, guys !  :D

Cheers,

IMHO, had the Seafang been deployed to the PTO, it would have worn camo and marking similar to the late Seafire L. III and early Seafire F. XV. As you probably know, we have great skin representations of each. The Spiteful XIV would be a different issue I think. Nonetheless, I'd appreciate any more skins for GJE's gorgeous Seafang model. Cheers, Gentleman!

P.S.

Great pics. The ones with Blue/White roundels would be wartime, and the grey schemes postwar (1946 onward). There was good reason for the wartime roundel appearing similar those of the USN. Much less confusion with Ki-61s :)
