Campaign Problem
« on: March 01, 2017, 04:44:48 PM »

Hi everyone

I thought I would test out a few campaigns from Mission4Today

I know these are not guaranteed to work in BAT, but I thought there would be a good chance they would be OK, so I thought I would try them

(Mea Culpa) I know if anything does not work it is not BATS fault - I am trying out a campaign built for a different MOD. I am not expecting it to work 'off the bat'

Anyway - I have tried the following two campaigns

Fighter Boys
Flying  Tigers Rangoon

In both of these Campaigns-

The briefing text does not appear, it is just a blank space  :-[

Took off OK
Did not explode on the runway
Did not see anyone explode on the runway
My AI flight did not do anything stupid
Got to where I needed to be- then fought for my life and nearly died  o_O
Navigated back to my airfield and landed without frikkin up the aircraft

All good  ;D

That is when my problem started

Could not progress to the next mission - got an error message

Told me - cannot move the mission, you do not ahold a high enough rank to command (XXXX a squadron of XXX whatever plane I am flying XXXX)

With the above - use your imagination 8)

Question

How to get briefing text?
Reckon it would just be a simple CFG edit in the campaign files?
Will take a look tomorrow

Question

Regarding the officer status?
I know I can get around it by just selecting the highest rank, and that is cool

But if the campaign designer wanted me to play it a a flight sergeant ( or whatever), then that's what I want to do
Again, I reckon it may possibly be a simple cfg edit in the campaign files?

If anyone has experienced these problems before please let me know  ;D

Briefings:

set locale=en in conf.ini or rename your briefings

Campaign engine:

imho its a bug is that you have to select highest rank and your player must be assigned to 1/1 flight otherwise you'll end up in different flights than intended (flying Hurricanes instead Spits for example), all my campaigns had the "pls select the highest rank" in the briefing at start. If there's a workaround i havent found it yet. :)  This only happens in user made scripted mission, not in dgen.

As the designer of "Fighter Boys" I give you the following advise:

1.) Briefings: in the download (version 3.0) there is a special folder for CUP, containing properties files without the "_ru" suffix. Use that!

2.) No, you can use any rank you want! But I wonder if this isn't a consequence of using MissionPro? Try disabling Missionpro and see if the rank problem persists.

Try that, and then - Tally Ho!  :)

Thanks for the replies guys
I will try these when I get home from work tonight

And thanks SAS~Poltava for Fighter Boys
It is a great campaign - I have played it a few times before in my earlier installs
Great work  ;)

set locale to "us" !

Do not use "en" because it will result in "missionname_en.properties" files being generated and requested by FMB
"us" is the one that does not create any country specific properties.

That was it!
My fault entirely
I saw the CUP folder when I was installing - but figured this is BAT, not CUP, so therefore I do not need it
If I had taken a few seconds to think about it I would have realised that BAT is built upon CUP, so of course I will need it
I feel like a bit of a dumbass now  o_O

I haven't managed to figure out how to do this
I have done a bit of Google-Fu, and read through some threads here, but cannot figure out how to turn this off

I think you are definitely on to something here though

For example, the following is the message I got when I tried to start my Flying Tigers Campaign
Here is the error message in full (sorry I have to type this out, my screenshots are not working, Printscreen freezes the game as if it is taking a screenie, but I cannot find them anywhere, there is no SS folder in my install)

Error message follows
***This mission has been modified by IL-2 campaign manager***
The rank of 'flight officer' is not enough to fly the Hawk 81A-2 in the position 1 of the flight AVG_FS_3z00

So the campaign manager is modifying the mission file
Is this the same as MissionPro?

If so - how do I turn it off?

Apologies in advance for my ignorance  o_O

I think it is. But as how to turn the MissionPro off in BAT I don't know. In the VP Mod Pack you simply put a minus sign at the front of the MissionPro folder name, and the game ignores the contents of that folder.

Mission pro is switched on/off via the JSGME selector in BAT

Not in B.A.T. - Mission PRO is integral to B.A.T.
