I often wonder how people saw the original il-2 in 2001. I have no idea, but i guess they saw it just like we see BOM/BOS today. And hopefully, in 10-15 years, BOS/BOM will be the new ''omg there is every plane in this game'' game   ;D

Ah, memories... For me it was like a dream came true. I tried a number of airsims in 1990s and played extensively Jane's WWII Fighters (it was good) in 1999-2000. But Il-2 was something special from the start and the only game which made me real "addict". At certain point I had to fight this obsession in order not to ruin my business career.  :o
