P-40 N-5-CU Kittyhawk IV with expanded loadouts
« on: May 10, 2017, 02:44:06 AM »

Was an old request of mine, I thought to revive as I started modding this myself.
So far the slot exists, loadout fiddling underway
The project will see a P-40 N-5-CU, armed with it's obligatory 6 Guns
installment, as well as the proposed 2500 lb bombload. i.e. you'll see
it cracking up 2000 lb as seen in Italy 1944 ... As a cream I'd like to
implement the 26th FS 51st Fighter Group(74 Sqn?)/China M8 launchers as another loadout.
Proposed Ferryhawk will come with 3 75gal Tanks for your pleasure... (Update author).

Code: [Select]
The P-40N-5-CU variant introduced a modified cockpit canopy with a frameless sliding hood and a deeper,
squared-off rectangular aft transparent section to improve the rearward view. This cockpit canopy was retained
for all the rest of the production blocks of the N version. The N-5 version restored the full six-gun wing armament,
since pilots had complained that four guns were insufficient. Underwing racks were fitted for bombs or drop tanks,
increasing external stores capacity to 2500 pounds. The new heavier gross weight of 8350 pounds limited top speed
to 350 mph at 16,400 feet and service ceiling to 31,000 feet. An altitude of 14,000 feet could be attained in 7.3 minutes.
Range was 340 miles with a 500-pound bomb underneath the fuselage. Three drop tanks promised a ferry range of up to
3100 miles at 198 mph.

Lulu Belle 80FG/89FS, India ...

Burma Banshees and another Unit in China used reportedly Napalm tanks,
75 gal fuel Tanks, the unit in China self welded larger Tanks.

Great to see the P40's carrying-capacity recognised at last!
My old man flew them with the 2000lb load  -in fact he flew the very same aircraft you show above [= "? GA"],
but not on the day of the photo!

Hi Fattyfinn, stumbled across a Post about GA-?'s on 112 RAF Sqn memorial website. ;)

That Wingsitter doesn't fly, if I implement this I see tar and feathers, joke.

Some progress now, 90% of the loadouts added, ufff, Hui
initial testing undergoing...

Couldn't install the proper Tools required on my Girl's notebook,
guess it's a Win8 frenzy I can't win. Wanted this project to be with me on our holidays,
having some spare time and guts.
So I return to my homerig lovely Vista, at least this goes.

Best wishes

So far so good, added the 4,5 inch Rockets.
Very WIP. Nifty fine tuning is needed.
Left is alligning of the Launcher and Rockets, a tedious task.
Then cleaning up.

Shown is the proposed M-8 and small Bombload option 26th FS trained for.
Inspired by a Picture showing this loadout with training Bombs prior to combat.

Hi Tobias
great  skins - & especially FX760 !
wonderful to see all this happening, for the dear old P40.
And happy to see you've found the RAF 112 sqdn memorial site - many a good read there.

Didn't noticed that, if you can I can correct it. Do you seem to have resource pĆ¼ics showing it?

Update to first Post:
I completed the historical set of Loadouts with 4,5" Rockets as they appeared during
the 51st Fighter Group's Hainan Island Attack and previous practice runs prior to the attack.

(M template should work too in theory...)

Hi Tobias
As the 112 sqdn site explains it, they usually had one kite labelled "?", & this plane usually had a "J wellington Wimpy" mascot on the left side.
Dont have a shot of this on a P40, but it was continued with P51s, as shown on the pic. here - from Robin Brown's book "Shark Squadron: The history of 112 Sqdn, 1917-75" [Crecy books, 1994].
Pilot unknown.
I'm not sure if your skin for FX760 should include Wimpy. Brown's book says that 112 only had FX760 for a very short time [in June 44], before switching to mustangs later the same month.
But wimpy was on FX740.
My version of the Wimpy face is not the right one, though. See Brown's book for that [ p183 ] -or I can pm it.
