U-10B
« on: May 17, 2017, 09:27:36 AM »

The Helio Courier is a cantilever high-wing light C/STOL utility aircraft designed in 1949

The Super Courier, a more powerful derivative, was used by the US Air Force from 1958 onward, by the US Army Special Forces in the 1960s and 1970s and by Air America during the Vietnam War as the U-10. In U.S. Army and Air Force service, the U-10 Super Courier was used for liaison work, light cargo and supply drops, psychological warfare, forward air control (Air Force), insertion and extraction land and sea (Army) and reconnaissance. Various versions were produced up through the 1980s, including turbine-powered variants.

The Super Courier saw military service in the United States as the U-10 (ex L-28). Over 120 were built: The L-28A (2, later redesignated U-10A), U-10A (26), U-10B extended range and paratrooper doors (57), and the U-10D with a higher gross weight(36). There was no U-10C.

Another aircraft that is based on RealDarkos Piper Pa-18 Super Cub which is based on the original Flakiten Stinson with Beebop skins and Skipper cockpit, with a new 3d by Bison_M and slot from Skvorez. Thanks again to all involved for making this one possible. ;)

Link is dead, use the version by Vega, Gio at the end of the post instead.

Original Mod available here : https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,44484.0.html

To use this simply swap this one out for your original Pa-18 Super Cub. No change to the air.ini or skin folder is required. I've included two additional skins in 1024x1024 format. The first is for an aircraft of the 1st Special Operations Wing Vietnam and the other is a void.Tested and working in B.A.T.EP12.

Note this does not have the damage model as of yet.

Awesome Edlor,

Very short runways for this aircraft.  :D ;)
Remember watching Air America and Gibson landing one on the side of a mountain in just a clearing not a runway.

Very cool  ;D :)

Cheers

Thanks all.  :)

Ya I like that one too dsawan and slots are always nice to have. ;)

Funny you should mention that Kirby because that's the same scene I pictured while putting this one together. Only thing is the aircraft in that scene was a Pilatus Turbo Porter but I imagine that scene was based on this aircraft's exploits with Air America. I'm thinking I may have to do a Turbo Porter now. 8)  ;)

That's too funny Kirby.:D :D :D ;D

My wife was asking me yesterday why this one had " Air America " on it. So when I explained it to her and told her there was even a movie about it with Mel Gibson and Robert Downey Jr in it. Well.... needless to say guess what we're watching tonight.  :D :D ;D  ;)

Cheers,

Edlor

Very cool airplane  8) I like it! Great addition to the game.

Why is no one interested in making new slots for all these new aircraft?
Have we run out of slot-space?  :(

Just out of interest my father was a flight engineer on Electras in Canada.
He never told me this before until coming to Thailand for a family second visit trip.
One time he was doing further training for his flight engineer career (a course) in Calgary and a rep from Air America came and visited the training center to see if anyone was keen to join up.
He told me that if he didn't have us (my sister and I) he would have gone.
I was only a rug rat, toddler back then and my sister perhaps 3 or 4 years old.
Anyway it was interesting that he never told me that in Australia at all until I moved to Thailand.

Cheers

Thanks Max. ;D

I'm glad you like it and as to the slots. I don't think it's a matter of lack of interest in making new slots. I think it's more likely about priorities. Like you and and I, they have their projects that need to be completed before they take on anything new.  ;)

That is interesting Kirby and I think your Father made the right chose at that time. Like you say if it wasn't for you and your sister his decision may have been a different one. I'm sure your Father had his reasons for not telling you sooner about that but whatever that reason was only he'd know.  :)

Cheers and thanks again,

Edlor

I've had the privilege over the years to know several AA veterans. To the person they were unique people and exceptional pilots. Their aircraft are not often represented in Aviation SIMS.  Thanks Edlor for making the U-10 available. A very nice addition to the "Nam" era.

Thanks dona and you're very welcome,  :)

From what I've read about the exploits of the Air America pilots I have to agree with you on that. They were indeed unique and you're right about the lack of their aircraft in sims. I'll see what I can do to change that in the near future. ;)

Cheers,

Edlor
