Thanks and gratitude to;
Cyberolas for his incredible Singapore textures
CzechTexan for his great town texture from Lower Burma
DT for their NBNG maps, from which I have copied profusely

*********************************************************************************

Installation Instructions;

Unzip with 7zip if possible - Unzipped file contains
i) map folder "sq_Eastern-Java_Borneo"
ii) textures folder "Singapore"

Install the folder sq_Eastern-Java_Borneo as follows;

    MODS,#SAS,#WAW,#WAW2/MAPMODS/MAPS/sq_Eastern-Java_Borneo

Note - This map requires the "Singapore" textures by Cyberolas, from his reworking of
the Singapore Maps (this map topic is in pole position at the top of PTO maps at time of writing).

Install the texture folder "sq" as follows

   MODS,#SAS,#WAW,#WAW2/MAPMODS/MAPS/_Tex/sq

****************************************************************************

Finally, add this entry to the all.ini file (inside the MAPS folder)

   sq_Eastern-Java_Borneo        sq_Eastern-Java_Borneo/load.ini

****************************************************************************
******************* IMPORTANT ******************
This map has been tested in Modact 5.3, CUP (up to latest expansion Part 22), HSFX 7.03, BAT (up to v3.2 Angels High) and all
versions of 4.13 up to and including Modact 6.4. (My guess is that it will work in pre-4.12 versions, as long as the appropriate
supporting sfs files are there - see below)

If you are installing into a 4.12 version, you will need some files from 4.13 in order for the map to work properly.

The Java Map requires some objects from the DT New Britain - New Guinea maps in 4.13, which are contained within 4.13 root directory sfs files -
If you look in the root folder of 4.13 you will see that there are some extra sfs files compared to 4.12 - namely fb_3do27.sfs and
fb_maps21.sfs -

You will therefore need the sfs files from 4.13 in order for the map to work properly.

This is very easy to do!

Just copy the following files from the main root directory of 4.13
fb_3do27.sfs
fb_maps21.sfs
Then paste them into your 4.12 root directory.

You must then ADD the following entries into your 4.12 .rc file to enable the sfs files to work -
The .rc file is inside STD folder - Mods (#WAW, SAS etc)/STD/RC file

@sfs MOUNT fb_3do27.sfs
@sfs MOUNT fb_maps21.sfs

Open the .rc file by double-clicking then scroll down to the maps and 3do sections - put the above entries at the bottom of each
section - they follow on numerically so it's obvious where they go

After this the map should work perfectly! - and you will have the added bonus of also having the new DT maps; New Britain New
Guinea and some Eastern European Maps (just copy the all.ini entries from the 4.13 maps folder for these extra maps to appear
in your FMB lists)

Actually to make it easier - here are the all.ini entries for NGNB maps (sorry, I don't know what the other maps are - I think
they may be Yugoslavia?? Try looking on the 4.13 update thread))

New-Britain_New-Guinea_Mar-43_DT NGNB_DT/NGNB_3-43.ini
New-Britain_New-Guinea_Sept-43_DT NGNB_DT/NGNB_9-43.ini
New-Britain_New-Guinea_Jan-44_DT NGNB_DT/NGNB_1-44.ini
New-Britain_New-Guinea_June-44_DT NGNB_DT/NGNB_6-44.ini

**********************************************************************************************************

If missions do not save, you have missing objects - get them at post #86, #87 and #88 in this thread below
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,56172.msg624341.html#msg624341

*******************************************************************************************************

Finally; Apologies - I am still rubbish at drawing roads/railways on the ed map, so please forgive this while I hopefully improve.
Please report any anomalies or anything that doesn't look right.
Also, if anyone has any detailed contemporary information or photographs, I would be very grateful.

Best regards
Squashman

Since you asked...and I do not ever criticize work here...but also since I worked with DEI veterans groups, years ago, when making the Campaign Series (platoon level), ground combat scenarios for the NEI...my information showed the Samarinda airfield north of the river.  I am not critical at all...and would not change the map.  What you have done is wonderful.

That's all and out...and cheers...and thanx.

For the life of me, I have not been able to locate my sources...as of yet...however...as I recollect the Japanese advanced north to the river, where the Dutch finally could make a stand.  The Japanese forced the river, north, and occupied the airfield.  Nevertheless, like I said, don't change anything.  Here we are:  "Last Stand at Samarinda":  7 February 1942
Samarinda, Borneo:  The Japanese conquest of Borneo continues
unabated.  The major oil center of Balikpapan, on the southeast
coast, was occupied without a fight, the Dutch forces retreating
north to Samarinda.  After the capture of Balikpapan City, the
Japanese advanced north, in two columns, "mopping up the remaining
Dutch troops in the vicinity of Samarinda".

Again cheers and thanx so very much for this map

Just a little note about the all.ini entry

Instead of this

sq_Eastern-Java_Borneo             sq_Eastern-Java_Borneo/load.ini

It should be this

sq_Eastern-Java_Borneo sq_Eastern-Java_Borneo/load.ini

just 2 spaces only.

I know map typo errors very well  ;D

This is mainly for new folks that might not be able to get this awesome addition to load.  :D ;)

Cheers,

Hi Gubi, Farang

Thanks for the help already.
The map, although complete, is still something of an advanced beta. There will be more work done as the next few months go by; nothing structural, but certainly a certain amount of detail changes and additions.
Indeed, due to my failure to find many contemporary maps and photographs of the Dutch East Indies, there has been a certain amount of educated guessework, so expect changes and improvements to come.
Thanks Gubi, I will get on with relocating Samarinda asap, as this could affect mission building. I'll also put a note about the allini entry above.

Thanks again guys

Hi Squashman,
Great map!
Farang - Just wondered where you got the need for 'ONLY 2' spaces in the all.ini? My all.ini is set in 2 columns well apart and I have never had a map load issue?

Squashman:

What timing! A week and a half ago I bought a book called Rising Sun, Falling Skies - The Disastrous Java Sea Campaign of World War II by Jeffrey R. Cox. This book chronicles the period of time from December 7 (Tokyo/ December 6 Pearl Harbor), 1941 to March 8, 1942 when Governor General van Starkenborgh Stachouwer surrendered the Netherlands East Indies to the Japanese at Banoeng.

I finished the book two days ago and went looking in Il2 for a map of the area; it wasn't there but, now, here it is!

I'm looking forward to flying suicide missions in those little Brewster Buffalos against veteran Japanese Zero fighters. Oh, and the PBY can have some crucial missions against an enemy force. Of course the torpedoes will all have to malfunction!

I'm going to download this right now.

Hi Bob
Yes indeed, about six months ago I also discovered this brilliant and detailed book. In fact, it was a large part of my inspiration to make a Java map!
The air actions were of course large and intense but the naval battles were heroic and epic. Hopefully with the advent of drivable ships like the PT Boat by Bombsaways and C Watson (WIP at moment) it may be possible to re-enact these naval actions in missions or campaigns.
I am working on a suite of maps to cover the entire Dutch East Indies, including Southern Sumatra/Western Java and Celibes/Ambon Sea, so stand by.
regards
Squash
