Spitfire Photo Recon missions?
« on: July 24, 2017, 07:34:52 AM »

Hey all

Bit of a long shot I guess but does anyone know of any Spitfire photo recon (using a Spitfire PR. model of the plane) missions that are available and work with BAT - I've done a quick search but drawn a blank (as is usually the case).

Thanks in advance.

no because there are no dedicated PR campaigns at all...this is a real pitty but i do not think that proper recce is currently possible in IL2, no matter which modpack

Not correct.
Photo recon function is fully integrated into Scorched Earth Online War (SEOW) using HSFX7.0.3
and is in fact critical for campaigns in this system.
Though it does not actually capture images , it simulates the effect of reconnaissance by revealing
information about enemy ground troops and infrastructure where overflown and photographed.
It works on a percentage known value for any unit - more recon higher percentage known.

For instance...
A Tiger Mk I Tank is hiding in the Village of Evreux in Normandy.
A Photo Recon Spit flies over and photographs Evreux.
The percentage of information known about what is in Evreux is calculated based on
Altitude of Recon Flight , Weather conditions at the time of the flight , previous information known (previous photos taken) about Evreux ,
Experience of the Recon Aircrew , Recon Decay (set by campaign) , plus likely some factors I can't recall.
During Mission 1 the PR Mission results in the Allies knowing that there is an enemy unit in Evreux , but not what type.
During subsequent missions , more PR flights over reveal that the enemy is an armoured unit , and then that it is a Tiger Tank.
With 100% recon the Allies know that it is a Tiger tank belonging to SS sPzAbteilung 101.

This allows you as a commander to assess where the battlefield threats are greatest , and the percentage known about a target affects the ability of AI flights to find and successfully attack the enemy unit.

but as I am an avid offliner, online campaigning is not for me unfortunately...

Thanks guys.  I thought it was a bit of a long shot.

I'm aware of the SEOW campaign (iirc it also runs for Iron Front in Arma 2?), but like Griffon I'm an offline flyer (I'm not much good and wouldn't last 5 seconds online in a dogfight and I'm a useless ground attacker).

Its VERY easy to write and fly photo-recon missions for B.A.T.  While some of the old Command and Control functions (recon and rescap), created by CY6, no longer work in version 412+ (because of changes to AI detection code), there are PLENTY of resources within B.A.T. that enable you to simulate a recon run and ensure you fly the course properly.

We have a massive shedload of aircraft, objects and maps to choose from.  ANY scenario, historic or imaged, is possible to create in FMB.

The main thing to consider is the target area: - At the waypoints defining your recon photo-run place hidden recon icons at the start and finish of the run.  This part of the course may also be heavily defended, to make it even more interesting and hazardous.  You will have to hit your marks to achieve 'Mission Complete'.  A further recon marker, placed over your home airfield, may be set to require a landing before the mission is considered complete.
