So do some planes simply not have mirrors?
« on: October 11, 2017, 09:02:27 AM »

I got very confused when switched from an F4F to an F6F, because all of a sudden I had no mirror in my plane. I tried a P-51B, and that also appears to have no mirrors.
Do some planes simply not have that option? I kept hitting my mirror toggle key but never got a mirror in those two planes.
Also, while I'm at it, what are the different mirror modes? I have three options it seems: off, option 1, and option 2. I can tell no difference between option 1 and option 2.

I'm not sure but I think that mirror mode only works on what I call, the 'noob' mode (Ctrl+F1) where the Cockpit is in the No Cockpit/Forward view mode.

But yes, not all aircrafts have a working mirror, or even a mirror at all, though some have an image as a mirror textured to the mirrors.

I always fly with cockpit, and have mirrors in some of the planes but not others. I'm assuming it's a "realism" feature in that some planes could carry mirrors, others couldn't, by pilot preference. Very helpful for situational awareness tho, which, in a sim on computer, is good to have since you just can't have the same level of situational awareness that you could IRL.
Head tracking helps, but only goes so far.
Thanks! :)

There are mods which add mirrors to some planes missing them in stock cockpits. One such is for the F6F, which you should be able to seek out; but of  a course your game mher be made mod compatible. Note that in reality not *all* planes had mirrors.

The two drawing modes for images reflected by mirrors are such that the first is simpler, including just the terrain (and water and sky), while the second adds extra ground features such as airfields. This was structured as such back in ye Olde Times when frame rates were more readily impacted.

I found a document over at M4T that lists which planes have mirrors and which don't.

AHA@! Thanks.
